does this happen to anyone?

Recommended Posts

I recently had my second fill and am able to eat small bites of food and have no problem drinking liquids. I seem to have a new issue now though. After eating if I lay down to take a nap (I work nights and need to sleep during the day) I will cough and end up basically vomiting up whatever I ate. I don't feel like I overate at the time. This seems to happen whenever I lay down after eating. Timing doesn't matter. It could be 2 hours later or 30 minutes later, it still happens. Any thoughts?

I can not lie down soon after eating, haven't been able to since banding. I have always needed a minimum of 2 hrs. to digest a bit. Maybe you could nap first then get up and eat, for weight loss that is the better way anyway.

Since my last fill two months ago, I can't sleep on my stomach at all, no matter how long ago I have eaten or had a drink. I can have dinner at 5PM and at 1AM I wake up to find that I rolled over in my sleep and my pouch contents came up. I don't wretch but the undigested food or drink just works its way up into my throat (no stomach acid).

sleep proped up by two pillows that works, like when you have indigestion, high pillows so your head is raised and food can digest down. all the best, let us know how you go.

It sounds like reflux and I had it too. It can be addressed by pillows or sleeping on a recliner or not laying down for several hours after eating. This helped me a little.

The only sure cure was a slight unfill. When I am really tight, it is just easier for the food to come back up as opposed to back down.

I have just had my fourth fill and experiencing problems I never had before, like waking up from a nap with my Protein Shake trying to work it's way up. I have found that if I chew a few tums between meals, it helps a bit with the reflux and gives you some extra Calcium to boot.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I will try them all. There are alot of quirky things we have to get used to to lose this weight with weight loss surgery, but everything to me is worth it to just get to a healthy weight and feel better.

You probably don't want to hear this, I know I would not want to hear this, but based on your statement above that it happens 2.5 hours after eating, that you might consider a slight unfill.

I know we all want to lose our weight, but vomiting is an issue that can generate band slippage. Thus, I would open a dialogue with my doctor seeking the best possible resolution, so that vomiting does not occur.

Good luck!
