Banded a week and 12lbs down!

Recommended Posts

:Dancing_wub:Hi guys,

Well I thought I'd come and share my exciting news and get some other ideas for more full liquid stuff.

Like I mentioned I am a week out from surgery today and down 12lbs. (209 lbs) and feeling pretty good. Only complaint I have is the soreness I feel on my left side, I guess where my port is. The other exciting news is after 3 yrs of using medicine to get a period it has returned on it's own without meds. Very encouraging considering I'd like to try for another baby in a yr or two~

Today is my first day of full liquids, a total of 3wks of liquids in total! I was on 9 days of clears and I am so ready for a change.

My full liquids list consist of smoothies, cream Soups, apple sauce, pudding and cream of wheat. And of course in between that Protein shakes and Clear Liquids. Was wondering what else people were drinking...

Also is it normal to not feel hungry yet? I cant tell when I am full either, although I dont really push myself. I have between 4-6oz with each "meal". Is this normal?

Congrats on the weight loss. I am almost 2 weeks post op and have lost 10lbs. The first week, I would feel like I was starving and drank about 1/2 to 1 cup of liquids every 2 hours or so. I was waking up in the middle of the night hungry and I would have to get up and drink something. So one night I ate 1/2 cup of cream of potato Soup and then I drank 4 oz of a Protein Shake. I was so full I thought I was going to be sick and I still woke up that night hungry. Now I have started eating 5 club crackers with a tiny bit of Peanut Butter and jelly on them at night. Since I started doing that I don't ever really feel hungry anymore. Do you know how many caleries we are supposed to be getting? I haven't had over 800. Anyways, I'll stop rambling now. Good Luck.

Congrats on the weightloss SDMama!

my period came too...and doesn't wanna go away!!

I'm not feeling hungry or when i'm full, since i don't really feel hungry!

i was banded on 3/3/09. i got a call from the support person at the hospital yesterday asking how i was doing. she said to try to not go under 1000 calories a day or our bodies would stop losing as well as it should.

i have been getting about 800, so she suggested i up that. i was afraid of eating too often or too much at once. i really wasn't hungry to begin with, so it seemed hard to push myself to eat more. between the carnation drinks and Water, i felt like i was constantly making myself feel full.

Yesterday, i was able to add well cooked Beans and veggies, so i added about 1/4 cup of refried Beans, about a tablespoon of salsa, and some shredded cheese (like pintos and cheese from tacobell). it was a great change from the 'liquids' i was only able to have before!

I have lost (according to my scale) 14 pounds so far. even my mom said she noticed my face didn't have that swollen look anymore!

Hey ladies thanks foor the feed back. WTG on the wieghtloss also.

I will def. try and start eating more, its hard like you said though. I feel like its more of a need to eat than a want you know. So today I will make sure I am eating enough so that way the weight still comes off. TY for the tip on the Beans, I cant wait!

:smile:Hi all! I was banded on 2/25. The first week on clears I got 300-500 calories/day and was starving. The week on full liquids was alot better. I'm on soft foods now, eating mostly Beans, Soups, carnation instant Breakfast some mornings, occasional cup of coffee, gatorade (for workouts), occasional crackers and 3 bottles of water/day. Since I've been on soft foods I'm no longer hungry. I'm probably getting @700 -800 calories/day.

I love working out and probably workout 4-5 days/week. I have vowed not to get on the scale too freqently, so 3 days ago I was down 10lbs.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
