After fills, can the band loosen back up?

Recommended Posts

I had my 2nd fill and was pretty tight...I was getting stuck pretty often at certain times of the day, especially in the mornings. My good eating time was in mid-late afternoon. I was having to eat mostly foods that had liquid with them or use dips to help with the sticking...My second fill was in mid December...Do the bands loosen up after a while? I'm not getting stuck as often now and I was wondering how it would be able to loosen up? Can the Fluid leak out or the band kind of stretch with the passing of food thru it? Maybe I've stretched my small stomach above the band....hhmm

I'm not hurting... I have unfortunately thrown up a few times since December because of food sticking in my chest but other then that, I feel fine! I've eaten much less portions but my food choices are not the wisest choices. I have been stuck for a couple of months with no weight loss....I have lost 65lbs total but have stayed there for a long time...

Yes they do. As you lose weight, you not only lose the weight on obvious parts of your body, you lose the internal fat too. So just like how a belt gets loose around your waist, the band loosens around your stomach and needs to be tightened back up. Otherwise we could all simply be filled to our magic sweet spot in one fill and left that way forever.

You also loose tiny amounts of Fluid by evaporation too.

awesome! thank you.... I do really, really need to go back to the Protein first rule and I need to get my exercise back on... I work full time and have 2 small children, hard to get that exercise in when Daddy works 2nd shift!

I still feel kind of restricted at times but it was getting easier to eat some things lately... I just need to get my act together and follow the rules!!

Don't forget, small bites, chew well. Put down the fork or food between bites and avoid liquid calories. Back to basics!

I agree that the band can feel looser as well, but it is not the band that changes it is the padding of fat around the stomach. You might just be ready for a tiny fill to tweak your restriction . . . unless you are feeling good where you are now and continuing to lose.

By the way, you look fabulous in your pictures. The change is amazing.

I am in the same spot. I have put on a few pounds back but I am accounting it to the long winter here in michigan. I do notice when I first got my fill I could not eat nearly what I can eat now. I am wondering can you stretch out the upper pouch if you eat to much. I have been consentrating on Protein and veggies but I do like my popcorn. I am thinking I may have eaten to much popcorn and dont some damage. I would like to loose about 20 more pounds and am having trouble getting it off. Help me please

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
