Hi, my first day with the forum

Recommended Posts

I had surgery a few years back and in the past year and half I have gained appx 20 lbs, a couple of pounds at a time.

I don't know if it is my age or what. I don't eat that much because if I do it comes back as fast as it went in. I don't eat late because it make me cough and choke at night if I do. Is it too late to start loosing again? Any suggestions of what to do? I only had 3 fills but no more than I eat that is sufficient.

I see alot going on in your post so I just wanted to clarify some stuff.

You say you're gaining weight right? Your age would not cause you to gain weight with a band fitted. You say you don't eat much because it comes right back up? Theres a couple things that could be going on here. Is your band tight? Do you have to sip Water or is the band loose enough you can take gulps? I ask because it's possible the bands too tight or you're eating way too fast. If you're not able to eat at night because it makes you cough and choke at night I would go see a doctor. It's entirely possible to have some of those symptons with an eroded or slipped band.

I don't say that to scare you. I think that if you have had the band that long and you're having issues I would make an appt.

I do not have a problem with anything going down, Water or food. It is not like when I would have a fill. I do need to have it checked, it has been a while since I have been.

You might just ask them to do a flouro and see how it goes. What gets me is if you don't have a problem getting anything down it sounds like you need a fill.... But if its coming up at night that's not good.

Good luck... let us know what the doc says

it's not too late to start losing again. you say you were banded years ago, maybe before this forum got started. I would keep coming back to this forum for inspiration. I would also go to youtube because watching those lapband videos is REALLY informative and fun.

Don't eat too close to bedtime, get your Water in, and start exercising consistently again. Those 3 should help you get back on track. Lastly, you can start replacing some of what you eat with better choices. :-D

I too can't eat after 7pm if I don't want it to come up in my sleep. Ick.

I'd track the actual calories of what you eat and the quality of your food. Also all the other rules, like how long after you eat do you drink? etc.

And going to the doctor isn't a bad idea. Let us know what you choose to do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
