I had the lap band surgery 2/9/09 1 week after surgery I can eat as normal as before. is this normal before you have your 1st adjustment. I'm finding it real hard and only maintaining my weight, because I'm always feeling hungry. My motivation seems to be going down & feeling like I feeling like i failed once again.

You are no failure. You are in bandster hell...the period between being banded and your first fill. Do not be discouraged. This period is about healing and not weight loss. You have nothing to worry about because almost everyone goes through the same thing during this time. Just focus on healing up and getting ready for your first fill. Don't worry about your weight. Good luck!

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! your saying your eating normal only 1 week after surgery?? Be careful you do not hurt yourself. I was on 4 week liquid diet then 2 weeks of mushies after my surgery. You have to give your stomach time to heal before you start eating solids. I am shocked your surgeon did not tell you this.

I'm with Guy, heal first and worry about food later. You should be on liquids still and as long as you choose lower calorie liquids, drink up. I just had my fourth fill and am finally feeling restriction which is taking some getting used to. So enjoy your time while you can and heal. It's a lifestyle change not a race and you will get out of bandster hell and start to see results.

Every doctor is different. I had my surgery on Feb 16th. (My first fill isn't until next week) I am back on regular food now. I eat very small portions, about every 3 -4 hours. Which means I eat 4 -5 times a day. A yogurt, an orange & a granola bar, 2 slices of low-fat ham w/ a slice of cheese. Each of these is a meal for me. The 100-calorie snack packs are helpful as well. I really enjoy the granola bars. The sugar free popsicles are a great, fun snack! I sip on Water all day long. A Protein Shake a day helps me to meet my Protein goals for the day. I make sure I write everything I eat down in my food journal, and exercise at least 30 mins a day. I have been able to lose about 2 lbs a week doing this. It is really slow, but it works. Just hang in there and do your best to make wise food choices. Once you have your first fill, you will be on your way to weight loss!

Take care of yourself!

Hugs,

I guess every doctor really is different. I was told 3 days Clear Liquids then regular liquids for the rest of the week then mushies then at week 3 can move to solids. I was banded Feb. 13th & have had no problems that I'm aware of. I had my first fill today & until now, I felt very little restriction actually I still don't. I did at the office when the doctor firdt filled it & had me taking sips of Water, it hurt. He said he put in 4cc I don't know if that's the normal amount or not.

Yeah, I got my first fill on Monday night and still no restriction for me. I can eat about 60% of what I used to but everything I eat is still passing right through my band. I have a 14cc band and was told I had about 3cc of primer Fluid and they added another 3cc at my first fill. That means i have 6cc in my 14cc band but still no restriction. I'm getting filled again this Saturday. I'm still slowly losing weight but i'm a little anxious to get restriction so I can start using the band the way it was intended.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
