i am 16 years old and i am most likely going to get the surgery. i am just scared about the surgery and healing. but i am also scared about after. so i want to ask the people who have had the band for 2 year or more,

how much weight have you lost?

did you reach any plateaus? if so how long?

and just more along those lines.

I have been banded almost 2 1/2 yrs and you can see my loss in my weight loss ticker. As far as plateaus are concerned, i think they are just a thing that will occur in any weight loss attempt no matter if it involved surgery or not. My longest plateau was a month, but i hung in there and sure enough the scale started the downward motion again. At this stage of the game i average about a pound a week if im super strict.

I am over a year out, but not two. I can say that my plateaus in the beginning might have lasted a couple of weeks at the most, but I was always able to break out of them by changing calorie intake or changing my exercise routine. Plateaus never last for very long if you aggressively try to break them and keep following the rules. The biggest risk is when you get discouraged and then start eating badly or not following rules.

As I got closer to goal, I lost slower and slower and my plateaus might last a month or even more. However, even with those plateaus, it took me less than a year to get to goal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
