when did you return to work

Recommended Posts

Wondering how much time people took off before returning to work. I have a primarily desk job so the only issue would be my body adjusting. My surgery is on a Wednesday. Could I return on Monday? I've heard some return after a few days, two weeks. What have people actually done?

Thanks!!

I had surgery on friday and back at class tues. afternoon (I'm a nursing student, not a teacher). I felt good but wasn't as sharp as I thought I was...I say take a week. That's the minimum lap band recommends. A few people are ready earlier (and I thought I was. i felt ok but my thinking was fuzzy and I didn't even realize it...and no I wasn't on pain meds LOL) You are having surgery and will be on liquids...give your body and self a time to start healing and adapt.

I had my surgery on Friday 2/20 and was back to work on Monday 2/23. I was a little sore, but I dont feel that I should have taken anymore time than that. Each person is different though.

I had my surgery on Wed 4 March and am back to work today Monday 9 March without any pain meds. Still gassy but I guess that will be forever. I was pretty gassy even before the surgery.

I had surgery on Friday and could've went back Wed but I waited until the following Sat (I work weekends). I just sit at a computer terminal though and don't do anything physical. My port site was irritating just sitting in one position though.

I had surgery on Friday, was back to work next Tuesday. I did fine but I was easily tired and it was hard to work a full day.

It really depends on you. Some people are up and going right away, some need more time to recuperate. Pain was not an issue for me, just general discomfort and definitely fatigue.

It must depend on the doctor. My doctor still hasn't cleared me to drive! I had my surgery on 2/26. I am still home but am working from home. I go back tomorrow and should be cleared to go back. I am going back on 3/12.

Wow, I felt fine, but honestly I really needed the time off from work, and my doctor told me no driving so...I took it!!

Ijust asked my dr's office about this today. They said I am not allowed to drive for 2 weeks, and since my job is very physically demanding - I should expect to be off for at least 4 weeks. I am not allowed to return to work until I am 100% able to perform my job with no restrictions.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
