my doctor recommeded I drink 4-6 slimfast (atleast 60g protein) and 1 cup of fruit, i cup of veggies and a lean piece of meat the size of my palm. i was wondering is that a normal amount of slimfast or can I get Protein from other sources?

You're best to ask your doctor. Mine had a specific preop diet "shake" he wanted me to have...it wasn't slim fast. But you need to do what YOUR doc tells you to.

Wow, my Doc told me to avoid Slim Fast because it is very high in sugar content. However, I would do what your Doc told ya. =)

i have been doing the low carb slimfast and they hardly have any sugars and 20 grams of protein...my doctor said that shakes and a small meal a day was okay too. i am finding the more fills i get the less i want to eat so the shakes help me get my Protein in for the day .

For my pre-op diet I was given a list of brand choices. My dr. recommended Opti-fast, but I chose Atkins because they were more readily available. Compared to what we would normally eat, 6 shakes a day is only 960 calories.

For 13 days I drank 6 Atkins shakes a day, plus Water, SF popsicles, and SF Jello. I also chewed LOTS of gum, in part to get over the "wanting to chew" feeling, and the other part because I'm not supposed to chew gum now. Lost 11 lbs in the first 8 days.

Good luck to you.

If you are using the low-carb slim fast, 4-6 may not be too bad. Low-carb is best, Optima is middle of the road and standard is not as good.

However, most doctors say slim fast isn't the best choice due to high carb/sugar content in general. If your doctor recommends it, then I would stick with it or ask for some other options.
