Excited for spring

Recommended Posts

Hello all -

I'm so excited for spring!

I found this great new website - Running in the USA - Welcome to Running in the USA - where they list all the races that are happening. You search by state and then the races are listed by month.

I'm training for a triathlon and duathlon this summer/fall, and I'm hoping to do 1 - 2 races a month (just 5K or 10K) to help me get used to racing.

I used to do these races about 6 years ago and always had a blast. Plus, now, I'm recruiting some of my friends to do them with me.

The first 5K is on April 19th - it is called the Maple Syrup Run, and they serve a pancake Breakfast afterwards. Although, I know from experience that pancakes don't work well for me with my band. But, it is working to get my friends out to the race.

And, while I'm posting, I'll post a NSV - I was cleaning my townhouse and getting it ready to go on the market (I am relocating to another state for work). Anyway, someone was taking pictures, and in one of the pictures (taken from the back) I hardly recognize myself. In the picture, I don't think "that person" looks fat...but "that person" is me. Quite the revelation!

Happy spring to all of you!

Anna

Such a positive upbeat posting TravelAnna!!

WOW another person who likes running...don't understand it myself, but whatever brings you joy, enjoy! I think I would just go to the finish and have the pancakes and bypass the running part!:) I guess I will stick to gardening for the welcome to spring feeling...

A great NSV - bet that made you feel great! Funny some people have said they see a difference in me, but I just see the old me - I see through 'fat eyes', I guess!

When do you move? Happy spring to you!

You know, I keep watching myself in the monitor at Wal-mart as I'm leaving the store hoping to have that experience of thinking that person looks skinny. Not happening yet. I still see my big backside and know I'm not done with this weight loss just yet.

I'm excited for spring, but around here it means tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, so it is both exciting and a little scary.

Thunderstorms are great - I love 'em! Tornados - well, never experienced one (other than vicariously through Dorothy:wink2:), and can't say that I would like to experience one, either!

Spring here is cold and wet, and then the surprise of a really nice warm sunny day that brings you hope! Crocuses in bloom; daffys and tulips pushing through the ground, and grass turning from yellow/brown to green. But a lot of snow has to melt first....and with it some flooding, and icy roads...

I don't race anymore due to injuries, but I clicked on the website out of curiousity. The very first race on the list was right here where I live! Cracked me up! Thanks for sharing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
