Surgery tomorrow, have my period

Recommended Posts

So my period was a week late this month (of all the months to be off schedule). My surgery is tomorrow morning and I'm going to have my period. Did anyone else have this? Is there anything I need to do differently? I'm so annoyed that I'm going to have to deal this while in the hospital.

Don't worry, you will be fine. I also had mine at the time of the surgery. Just let the nurse know when you are in pre-op.

I had mine too. Tell the nurse and they will give you a pad and panty. For about the 1st 6 hrs after surgery I wore a pad and then I figured out how to comfortably put in a tampon and then I was more comfy because I never wear pads. So just take it easy and don't fret.

Good luck with your surg.

Thanks ladies! I told the nurse and she gave me a pad and the whole thing was fine. I just got home from the hospital and am pretty sore but am working on recovering.

I know you already are done & saw how it ended up but in case someone else finds this thread looking for info :mad2:

I bled horribly and non-stop if I didn't take b/c..so I was off b/c a month pre-op and it was nasty, I couldn't go 1 minute without a pad.. so when I was in the pre-op room and they told me to take everything off, I told the nurse and she said don't worry about it.. they doped me up and I woke up with one of those massive diaper pads taped to me and a bunch of towels. They handled it! And, when I woke up I didn't care. I just put on a normal pad when I was able to put underwear on.

I finsihed like a few days before my surgery, but when the pre-op nurse was having me change my clothes, he asked me. Luckily I didn't have to tell the male nurse that I was. LOL

Hi ait,

I'm being banded by Dr Ren @ NYU in august and was just wondering what your hospital experience was like ? DId you stay ON or go home same day? Where the nurses nice and caring or otherwise ?? any tips you could give ??

I was banded by Dr. Ren too. I also got my period on the day of surgery. They were very helpful getting me situated with that.

I didn't know what my allergies were before surgery, and I found out I was allergic to latex and morphine. The morphine allergy had me dry heaving all day after the surgery and when Ren came in around 6pm, she went ballistic that I had been heaving all day, I never saw people move so fast to get me some peace. They force you to get up and walk around a few hours after the surgery, and with the heaving I was doing, I didn't start the walking until about 2:00am...

They also measure how much you are urinating and you have to blow the aspirator. If you pee too little, or the aspirator isn't blowing hard, they say they will keep you.

I told them in advance that my veins are hard to find, and after fasting would be worse, so they got me a baby anesthesiologist to use a butterfly IV in my wrist. I was in surgery only 35 minutes, my Dad said he just had gotten settled in the chair when I was coming out of surgery.

All in all,the care was good, but I told my parents that I never want to be in a hospital again if I can help it.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
