Hi everyone:

I'm John, and I'm back here after nearly a year off. My goal in returning is to provide any info/help that I can regarding what I went through with my Lap-Band surgery in '07, and my subsequent plastic surgery procedures overseas.

I'll be piping in when I can, and please feel free to email me or IM me any time!

John

John:

Please tell about your plastic surgery procedures. What did you have done? How was the pain? How much did it cost?

Thanks for sharing.

I love my band.

Hi Sue,

The first procedure was by far the most extensive and complicated. It was an extended abdominoplasty, monsplasty (removal of excess skin in the groin area), tightening of my abdominal wall, liposuction all around my front, etc.

I also, at the same time, underwent a crescent medial thigh lift. If you don't know, this procedure removes the excess skin on the inside of the thigh. The surgeon did liposuction there as well.

In total, they removed 8 some-odd pounds of flesh and fat. I actually had a complication from the surgery, illeus of the stomach, a condition where the stomach and bowels go into shock because of the amount of trauma, coupled with anesthesia. No fault of the surgeon, and the team treated me very well. I was in the hospital for six days rather than three.

The pain wasn't too bad. I was pretty doped up. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again at all.

Just a few weeks ago, I had my second procedure in Bangkok. This was a buttock lift and further liposuction of my back and flanks. This surgery was a PIECE OF CAKE compared to the first one. All in all, I saved over $40k too....Whoa.

Regarding cost, I was quoted a little over $50k for the procedures I needed by various surgeons here in Boston. That's when I began researching Thailand, which I love anyway. I had all procedures done there for just a bit over $10,000 USD. Incredible.

Hope this helps, and feel free to IM me or message me if I can explain anything further.

John

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
