Okay...I finally have my date...and it's June 30th at UTSW with Dr. Rivas. I have a little more than 3 months to go until I get my dream. But I'm wondering what I need to be doing in the meantime. Any words of wisdom?

Maybe start by buying the preop stuff now if you see it on special, I was only given 3 days notice before I went on my preop so you're lucky. If you've got family that you cook for maybe make some meals in advance, or make some of the Soups you'll need afterwards in advance.

Once I got my surgery date, I started looking for

good Protein mixes, got baby spoons and plates,

bought a kitchen scale and new small bowls to

put my smaller portions in.

I drank the protein mixes and tried eating very slowly with my baby spoon. I had a pork chop that took over 30 minutes to eat. Cut it up in

pencil tip sizes and really tasted and enjoyed

the act of eating and chewing and chewing until it had a lot of liquid and went down.

Start walking more helps so when you are banded you can move and get that gas moving out of you also.

Start getting your mindset about why you eat.

You should be thinking that you eat to live, not live to eat.

I am sure there are other suggestions, but these are a good start.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
