I had my surgery in Dec and the doc told me my scars are healing fine. But I am wondering how much do they heal? Are they really noticable?

Mine are bad but I am fair skinned, older, and was operated on twice. I honestly don't care...I'd never wear a bikini now anyway and in an odd way I'm proud of them; they are like a badge of honor.

How much you'll scar though depends on many things...age, skin type, how dry your skin is, heredity, etc etc.

I am glad you think of them as a badge of honor. I a don't want anybody to ask me about them, but I am just that way. I don't know about wearing a bikini, but the thought that I maybe someday can is encouraging.

My bikini days are long gone but when I was a younger woman, I totally would've felt differently about them. There are things you can put on them to help minimize; ask your surgeon for a recommendation!

I am over 2 years out. My scars are faded little white lines.

They are hardly noticeable but they are definitely there.

I too had my lapband surgery in December, so my scars are still very pink. I had Gall Bladder surgery 5 years ago, which was also laparoscopic so the incisions are very similar. Those scars are very small white lines, you can barely notice the larger ones and the small incisions you cannot see at all!

Like others have said though, everyone heals differently and there are a number of factors that go into the equation (skin tone, age, etc.)!

If you want to wear a bikini, and you do not want to tell anyone that you had lapband surgery (and someone actually notices the scars) just tell them you had your Gall Bladder removed .

My doctor said it should take about a year for them to fade to white. Like wstorms, I had laparscopic gall bladder surgery several years ago, and the scars are barely noticeable, even when I'm looking for them. If I were younger AND in bikini shape, those scars wouldn't give me one second's worry. Nobody would ever notice them. I would consider myself somewhere in between fair and medium complexion wise.

LOL I have so many stretch marks on my tummy from obesity and child bearing that my Lap Band scars are a non issue. They have faded to almost nothing and are hardly noticable next to all the stretch marks!!!! It just looks like one more...... I am thankful that mine are flat and not raised. Even when hubby rubs my belly, he can't tell a thing.

I had my surgery in Dec 08. I tend to keloid and my scars are very dark and raised. My friend had her surgery after mine and hers are barely noticeable. Already very light pink. So it just depends. I wish mine wasnt so dark and am hoping it will fade soon.

There is a scar thread on here that has quite a few progress photos if you are interested in seeing how other's have healed. But it really will be more a matter of how your body heals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
