Pregnant BEFORE lap-band??

Recommended Posts

Will doctors give you a lap-band if you're pregnant (3 months at the time of surgery) or does it matter?

Thanks

I would think not. Any unnecessary anthesia should be avoided and it would not be healthy for the baby to lose weight like you do on the liquid phase.

I don't think there is a doctor who would do it. They shouldn't anyway. I agree with the above poster.

Are you serious? You would voluntarily have a general anaesthetic whilst pregnant?

I would think (hope) finding a doctor to do that would be virtually impossible.

I don't think so . . . it is best to wait anyway. The health of the baby should be the primary focus.

Far as I know, most docs will pretty much avoid any surgery during pregnancy unless it is an emergency or mandatory. For instance, a friend broke her ankle badly while 8 wks pregnant, so she had surgery as the only way to repair it. The question is, why would you want surgery now anyway? Lap banding is a very emotional journey, giving up old habits and comforts, mourning the loss of certain foods and tons of new processes to think about. Trying to do it while pregnant would be terrible and difficult.

As well, everything from gas meds, pain meds, blood thinners, anti-nausea and antibiotics are given during routine band surgery...most of them are not pregnancy friendly.

Uhm, it does matter and no legitimate doctor will band you while pregnant.

I think ejmdiva has a point. Banding isn't easy and you need to focus your full time, dedication and focus to making it successful.

Pregnancy can also be hard (occasionally easy as well) but you are dealing with a lot of emotional/hormonal swings during that time.

Most of us after banding have some hormonal balances that shift due to hormones being released that were previously stored in fat. That is why most of us get ultra bad periods and PMS in the months post banding. On top of this we are also giving up our previous long-standing relationship to food which is very difficult in and of itself.

Even if you could be 100% the baby could come to no harm, which you can't but if you could, I think it would just be too much to deal with at the same time.

I really dont think so, in fact I had to give urine in pre-op to make sure I was not pregnant about an hour before surgery.

I am going to say are you serious to this last statement. (lol) I know this post is old, but how did you think they put a band around your stomach and a port onto you abdominal muscle? Did you do research before considering surgery or did you just jump in with both feet? I'm not trying to be mean, but I researched the band for a good 4 years before I had it done....Anyways, I hope your pregnancy went (is going) well and that someday when you are ready and know what you're in for you are able to make the choice to get the band or not! Good luck with everything!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
