How Much Chili W/Proper Restriction

Recommended Posts

Good morning, afternoon, or evening!

I had my first fill yesterday and I am on mushies today. I had a small Wendy's chili for lunch. I was possessed, and at it in about 5 minutes:scared2:

I didnt have any problem with it at all. I have 4ccs in a 10ish cc band.

I was just wondering...bc I know quite a few people eat this Chili...with proper restriction would you have a problem eating it that fast? Or because its soft...it would give you weird feeling?

Thanks in advance!

I have very good restriction, and I had Wendy's chili just after my last fill when I was on mushies. I could still eat it easily. I've been banded for awhile (six months), so I'm used to taking things slow, so I certainly didn't eat it in five minutes, but it went down very easily.

My cc situation is up for debate, lol.

By my calculations, I'm over-filled, but by my doctor's, based on what they've pulled out, I have 8.4 cc. Measuring by what they've put in, I'm at around 10 cc in a 9 cc band.

not specific to the chili, but for me, following the 1st fill I didn't actually "feel" the restriction until late day 2/day 3. Seems like it took some time to kick in! Now I'm still feeling full after big servings of liquids.< /p>

Kiz, please tell me you meant, 9cc in a 10cc band..I never heard of a 9cc band and how can it be overfilled? Wouldn't there be a risk of rupture?

I have 10cc of Fluid in a 9cc band (Realize Band). Before I got my band, I went to a seminar presented by a Realize Band rep, and he said there was room in the band for overfill. Also, I talked to my doctor and some other people about band fills, and I've been assured that there's room in the tubing for additional Fluid, and the 9cc amount is not an absolute cut-off. I also know someone who has had an overfill for two years in a Lap Band, and she still has good restriction, so I feel pretty confident that I'll be fine.

I'm sure proper fill amounts are debatable, but it is what it is. In a quirk of my anatomy, I must be small on the inside, lol. Go figure. Now if I can just get my outside to match my inside, all will be good.

I had my third fill last week and I believe, if I remember the conversation, I have 6 cc's in a 10cc band. I did great on liquid phase and first day of mushies, but second day of mushies, restriction "really" kicked in and I mean big time. Today I could only get through half of my Cream of Wheat. I am worried about overfill but I also want to tough it out for a little bit more at least as in the past I have felt like I wasn't full enough. I don't want to over panic as long as I can keep at least 2 oz's down.

So, I think I hit my sweetspot but not quite sure yet. Any of you keep track on how long till you started to feel a "loosening" of the band?

Lucky you for being able to eat chili...I have 2cc's in a 10c band and I can not eat chili.

I was going to say lucky you, but I think it's a case of the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence! BC I wish I had a little more restriction with my fill to 4cc's...I can't feel much of a difference yet.

Just think that you have more restriction than me...so you get more use out of your band!

I was on business travel all last week and I tell you, I LIVED on Wendy's chili. Each day I had a small chili for lunch with a packet of their low fat sour cream mixed in. I am 5 weeks post op and have not had a fill yet; it went down easy. Sometimes I ate half and returned to the left over portion an hour or or so later. Other times I ate the whole thing within 10-15 minutes. No problems with the band and I was very satisfied after eating. Of course, I skipped the crackers.

My doctor told me that as long as I am losing weight he is not concerned with measuring my food. He states that he has heard some folks on 1/4 cup and 1/2 cup limits and that they are ridiculous. Just take it slow and you will re-learn what your limits are.

When I am well restricted, I slow down or stop about halfway through a Wendy's chili. I can finish it off but I either need to eat it v.e.r.y slow or eat some now and some later.

I think either you will have your fill "kick-in" over the next few days or you might be able to feel more after your next fill. If you can do the whole thing in five minutes, it must be passing through your band relatively quickly.

The amount of people's fills & restriction is so amazing to me.I'm 4 months out have had 3 fills for a total of 4 cc's.It amazes me that others who aren't as far out have as much or more fills than me.It's crazy how much things vary from pt to pt.I guess my doc is not very aggressive compared to some.I think I'm definitely in need of another fill.I'm finding my weightloss stalled and I can eat so much more quanity & more often than before!I soo want to get to that sweet spot where I'm not battleing hunger & the urge to snack all the time & the scale starts moving again!!

I have a friend who did RNY 2 weeks prior to me and her weight is just flying off! And it appears she can just eat whatever, not struggling at all unlike me! Very frustrating! But I know we all make personal choices it's just hard not to be jealous!!

This site definitely keeps me sane & in perspective!!Thanks everyone!!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
