Our doctors procedure is 48 hours of liquids, followed by 48 hours of mushies, and slowly introduce problem foods. Maybe you should ask you doctor why so many days on liquids. However, I know every doctor is different

Your doctor is way too strict! My doctors are all part of a Bariatric GRoup in Westchseter County , New York, well-known, and experienced. I realize everyone is different, but I had 3 fills and after every one of them, I had to have liquids for 2 days, mushies for 2, soft Proteins for 1 and then back to normal.

This is coo-coo to me for a couple of reasons. Its odd you would get your first fill before you and your body have a chance to find out how you handle regular food. That's one of the ways my doc figured out how much to fill me (first time yesterday). He asked if red meat, chicken, etc was going down just fine. Then he asked if I could eat a sandwhich no problem. When I said yes...he said, OKAY, we are giving you 4ccs girl! I said good!

10 days seems like it's just setting you up for failure and serious hunger! For me, when someone tells me I CANT eat something, my brain starts thinking cheat, cheat, cheat. Its better if I tell myself (or am told) you should be careful...or you should make better choices. If I feel like I have a choice, then I choose good things...but if you tell me I have no choice...I start thinking ranch dressing, cheetos, hot dogs, etc.

Actually, everyone on here has had there first fill about 6 weeks after surgery, because the swelling has gone done from the surgery and you are hungry again. Right after surgery, I could only have shakes and liquids for 2 weeks, then mushies for 1 more, and then soft Protein for the next couple weeks. But, I've nver heard of being on liquids for 10 days! That sounds really crazy to me. I think her doctor wants her to see results quickly, which isnt healthy. It was bad enough drinking liquids, shakes, and Soup for those first two weeks and I can barely get thru the two days after a fill. I feel bad for her. But, she doesnt have to do that. She should follow our plan. It cant hurt!

I was six weeks out, but I have been on soft-regular food for a couple of weeks. Its always interesting to see how docs are so different.

I was banded 14 months ago. I have had 9 fills. Post -op I had 14 days liquids, 14 full liquids and then 14 days mushies. The dr's nurse actually called me at 5 weeks to see how I was doing , still losing and I was. So she set appt for 2 weeks later to do my first fill. So approx 7 weeks I had the first fill and back to the 2 day liquids, then 2 day mushies and then soft foods. Every single time I have had a fill, my restriction kicks in on day 6. The tightness usually lasted about 2-3 good weeks, and on week 4 I was back in getting the next fill. wt loss was gradual the entire time. Month 12 no fill, still a little tight in the early mornings till about lunch. month 13 got 1cc brought me to 9cc in 10cc band. I am 8/10 lbs from goal. I am pretty tight the first half of day for last 2 weeks, No issues with any fluids going down, lots of restriction with food though. meal consist of about 3/4 Protein and veggies and maybe 1/2 slice WW bread. To me I dont think I could handle ten days of liquids after a fill. I think you need 1000-1200 calories a day to make you have lots of energy to exercise and burn that fat off. I would call him again, maybe you misunderstood him? good luck.

I thought I was crazy so I called to be sure...and yes they said 10 days of liquids..that is insane...!! My hair is falling out, I can sleep for weeks, I am taking a Multivitamin, liquid Iron, B6 and B12 and I am almost scared to eat something solid since I have no earthly idea what will happen! I am going to try something today maybe scrambled eggs and scrambled salmon and have small bites...I have only lost 13 lbs since being banded on the 3 of February and I just feel like I am failing somehow and I do not know how to jump start or start over...thanks for sharing your info with me and I look forward to any suggestions...I am gonna finish crying now...

Calm down your hair may be falling out from lack of Protein 90 days ago. It takes that long usually the post op days when protein intake was very low. Even if you feel like you need something more than liquids, maybe try some yogurt with Protein Powder or cottage cheese with PP that is 14g 1/2 cup. use frozen fruit to put into your Protein Shakes, maybe bananas(high potassium), blends up very well to a milkshake consistancy. I had a hard time with scrambled eggs acouple of times when I was feeling tight, so I stay away from scrambled, I do go to the Overlight version though. I personally like the EAS Protein powder from Sams club or online I suppose 23g protein per scoop, You are weak due to 1)not enough protein, 2) not enough SF fluids, and 3) lack of any exercise maybe.. hang in there.:closedeyes:Ps. Write down everything you eat and drink in Ounces /servings.

Mine consists of liquids for week one, mushies for week 2 and 3, and slowly introduce solids for week 4. He will be giving my first fill on the 4th week as well. Good luck to you Hun!

That's a tough post fill schedule, cmaneice. Maybe he wants to discourage you coming in for fills. Although, as others have mentioned, your first fill is earlier than many banders. I wonder if this is his usual post fill requirement, or only for number one.

There are tons of variances between band doctors on just about everything, but ten days of full liquids after a fill seems like one of the strictest.

My doctor just has us do one day of liquid after a fill--I personally do it a little slower, but that is my choice. Anyway, if I were you, I would call the doctor's office and put off the fill for a week or two and start your regular food diet before your first fill. That's what I did, since I took a long time to get to solid foods after my surgery. I followed my own schedule, since it is MY body, afterall, and I do intend to keep it for as long as I can! And, I know that I know my needs better than my doctor. If I were you I would call and ask to reschedule in two weeks, take the time to get to know how your band works for you now, and then get the fill. Ultimately you'll make the decision about how long to wait for solid food after the fill, with your doctor's trusted advise, right?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
