Overfilled or Over Reacting??

Recommended Posts

I had my second fill on Tuesday..I went from 2cc's to 3.7cc's. I have a 4cc band, by the way..I had it done under xray so, the barium seemed to be okay when we watched it go thru. I noticed an immediate difference a few hours later.

Two days later and I can barely tolerate liquids. I have remained on liquids, trying a few soft foods to see if I can tolerate it. Anything that I have eaten has either come back up or I had to throw it up. I am in pain when trying to eat or drink anything..And this burping!! Never had that either. I tried to give it a few days, hoping it was swollen and would relax??

Does this fit the description of being over filled...

Here's a very good description...

How do I know if the fill was too much ?

Being too restricted can lead to gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) which begins as “heartburn”. If left to continue, this can lead to esophageal erosion and even cancer. You will NOT lose weight faster if you are so restricted that you can only eat liquids and soft foods. Symptoms that persist for a week should be evaluated by an MD. Some of the most common symptoms include:

  • Not being able to tolerate solid foods
  • The feeling of food “coming back up” and then you swallow it back down
  • The feeling of food “coming back up” that forces you to run for a bathroom to spit it out or vomit
  • A burning feeling in the lower throat/upper chest area
  • Not being able to lie flat a few hours after eating because food/fluid comes back up causing you to cough/choke
  • A persistent cough after eating
  • There are MANY others but the point is you got the band to have a better quality of life so you don’t want the band to be a cause of threatening your health. Call your MD for an unfill if you need to and get to an emergency room STAT if you can't swallow your own saliva.

Thank you Kiz--Your description of an overfill gives me pause. I am VERY close to this description of an overfill. I am conflicted because I am losing weight where I am, but I don't want to sacrifice my health. So I better figure this thing out, and fast.

It is true that you may just be swollen and irritated from the fill and the throwing up and that it will go away in a couple more days, BUT the more trouble you are having, the longer the irritation and swelling will last also. Perhaps consider a teeny unfill? Maybe just the .7cc will do it. It will make you more comfortable and in a few weeks you can go back and get a little bit more after your tummy has calmed down. I've been overfilled and I know how horrible that experience was. I could only take it for 24 hours and went back to have some taken out. It took almost a week for my stomach to calm down before I could eat anything solid or drink cold liquids. I could actually feel the swelling in my esophagus and such when swallowing. It was not pleasant.

Thanks to everyone for their reponse!!!

I went back today for an "unfill"..So instead of being at 3.7cc's I am at 3.2cc's.....Just returned home and havent had a chance to test it out. =/

I just wanted to say thanks for all the insight!

That's great, coingirl. I hope the small unfill will be all you need.

Did you decide what you're going to do, jkend? I've read people say just a tiny .1 or .2 is enough to make a difference.

I've decided to try to eat slower, chew more thoroughly, and in the meantime I am going to try to calm my stoma down by staying with liquids pretty much for the next few days. Hopefully my stomach will be better in the next few days. If it isn't, then I will go in for an unfill. I hate to get an unfill if the problem was me, and how I was treating my band. I think I am so close to having it just where I want. As you can see, I am conflicted.

Yeah, I definitely understand how you feel about wanting to maintain good restriction, jk. Hopefully, your band will settle down in the next few days between going on liquids and then you proceeding to eat slower and chew more thoroughly. You guys are smart to look to fix these problems right away, rather than suffering for weeks. Good luck, and I hope this does the trick.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
