Transitioning from liquids to mushy food

Recommended Posts

I am about 10 days post surgery. I have been on full liquids since surgery. I have been having a hard time with the Protein Drinks. They make me feel bloated and nauseous. :)

I am lactose intolerant and most of the Protein drinks are milk based. I am currently using Optifast (dry milk base) and Atkins Advantage. Does anyone have a good Protein Drink that is not milk based? I have only been able to take about 2 protein drinks a day, plus broth, Soup, yogurt (surprisingly doesn't bother me) and Jello. I haven't felt well and am weak. My doctor told me that I needed more calories and to up my protein drinks!! He also told me that I could start transitioning to mushy foods this weekend. Does anyone have advice on protein drinks, mushy food (how to be creative) and transitioning! I would love to hear your suggestions!:crying:

I was also very nauseous with the Protein drinks. Although it is somewhat expensive. I was able to tolerate Isopure bottled drinks ( Icy Orange). That's the only flavor that I could stomach. It's 40g protein and I would sip on it over ice all day. It may just get you through this time. By the way, I live in Flower Mound and was able to get the drinks at the Vitamin Shoppe ( they have other flavors and you can just try one at a time). Best of luck and know that it gets better soon!

Hi! I was banded 2/25 too! My doctor gave me the ok for anything i could TOLORATE Tuesday. I can't help you with the Protein Shakes - but what I have eaten for three days are -- scrambled eggs (never tasted better), chicken salad (run through the food processor), finely chopped Green salad w/ 1000 island (homemade w/ boiled eggs)!!!, sliced american cheese and Peanut Butter. I can only manage VERY SMALL amounts of the above. I do feel human again though being able to chew something, since I had been on liquids since 2/9/09. I still get tired in the afternoons. I am tracking my food intake on "The Daily Plate" and am only taking in 400 to 600 calories a day and am walking so it is no wonder. Sign up on Livestrong.com and use "the daily plate". I found out about it on this site and it has been VERY helpful. 23 lbs down and counting!!! Woo hoo!

I use Daily Plate too! It really is a no brainer. You can see immediately if you are up/down in Protein or calories. I get a good portion of my daily protein by adding 2 scoops of beneprotein to an Adkins Advantage drink. I blend it real good and try to get it as cold as possible. I agree that I have to really push it to get beyond 800 calories a day in. I have been tracking on Daily Plate only since Friday and I have slowly been going up on calories. I feel pretty good over all. I am not starving at all. I can really tell when I need to eat.

Hi Shelley I was just banded this past Wednesday and I've been drinking a Liquid Protein supplement called "Liquacell" that I bought thru a company called "Square one Medical" prior to surgery. It is "clear liquid OK" and collagen based "no dairy". It tastes like Grape Koolaid and has 16 grams of Protein and 70 calories per 2 tbsp and can be taken straight or added to Water. Although I'm a newbie I have not had any bad reaction to it yet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
