New to lap band group

Hello........

I am a little scared to start even asking questions because I am so overweight and afraid to even put myself out there.

I have finally decided to have the surgery and now I think I have picked a surgeon. I live in Florida but I think that I will go to Texas for the surgery. I haven't told my husband but he thinks I'll be in Dallas shopping with friends. I attended a Lap Band Solutions presentation but feel like I am just a number to them. I have left 4 messages and had not received a call back. All I wanted is more information on the doctor that I chose from their website.

So I am now asking the people on the Web. If you had surgery in Dallas who was your doctor and how did he treat you. I have read great things about Dr. Benavidez. Has anyone heard of anyway to have the surgery with him and not have to DEAL with Lapband Solutions. The people there are really not helpful and I don't want to go another hospital in WISE Texas???? My friend said it is really far.

I think the days of treating people that are overweight horrible should be over. Please HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know if I can just GO DIRECTLY THROUGH THE doctors office???? I am afraid that if I have to deal with these people I am going to miss out on regaining my life!!!

Please let me know what I should do.

Thanks.

I am set to be banded at UT Southwestern Medical Center on Monday March 23rd, the doctor there is Dr Scott. He was the speaker at the seminar I attended. I have met with him and he is very comfortable. Check him out.

Just a question why are you not telling your husband? You don't want to use lapband solutions or a like place then you are most likely going to have an over night stay in the hospital.

You could call the doctors office and see if he will take you as a direct client. However, since you have already attended a seminar, there may be some stipulation that you have to go through them since that is how your first learned about the program. It never hurts to ask directly . . . but call the doctors office first.

I would definitely consider keeping your husband in the loop. It is going to be obvious when you get back after surgery that something has changed in your eating habits with the liquid diet and you will be sore and bandaged to boot. He might be hurt that you didn't let him know ahead of time and I think it is impossible to keep it from him completely.

I am considering going to Dr. Scott.. how was your experience? Did you get the SILS? I've been checking the forums for people who went to him and I haven't found much..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
