"Lucky Losers" (March 2009 banders)

Recommended Posts

my surgeon hasnt put me on any restrictive diet before surgery. I think i should probably scale down my carbs and calories if it helps with the liver size. My surgeon just recently told me that I have NASH. Does anyone else suffer from NASH.

--side note-- how do I add a tracker and my info at the end of my thread?

Well I have to say that liquid diet is extremly difficult. It does make the surgery easier, but it is a long and painful process. I am starving all the time. The Protein shake could only hold off my hunger for one hour.

Hi all! I'm on day 6 of 3 protien shakes a day and unlimited green vegetables. It is hard, but I'm learning which protien shakes are best for me. It has been really difficult, not so hard at work b/c I'm so busy all the time, but at home its harder. I'm finding the more Protein I eat, the better I can handle the hunger. I'm also not drinking enough Water - so I'm a little dehydrated. I'm at 227 this a.m. and started at 236 last Saturday. I know that is mostly Water - clearly.

I am using the site: Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program and that is keeping me motivated and making me aware I should consume more calories. I really love this site - its completely free, no annoying ads/mail, and I love the analysis reports as well as the diet profiles you can take.

My surgery is Monday, March 9th. I have to fly cross country and will by flying home Wed, march 12th. Good luck all you lucky losers!!

Hi LifeStartsNow, you and I have the same date - Monday. I have found a couple of Protein shakes that are delicious, so there's no problem getting them down. They are the "Oh Yeah" available from Bariatric Eating and Myoplex EAS, I like the chocolate fudge, from Walmart.< /p>

The best way for me to get my Water down is to set aside four bottles of Water (20 oz) and start in the morning when I first get up. Sometimes I add some Crystal Light or Special K Protein mix to a bottle. I just concentrate on it being only 4 bottles, and try to be finished by late afternoon so I'm not up too often in the night. Anything I drink after that is a bonus.

Best of luck to all of us on starting our new lives this month!!

Hey Picklesix - great ideas about the water! I'll have to try that. So far, my favorite Protein Drink is adkins mocha (target) and Premier Protien (30g protein) from costco.

I'm getting a little jittery - but I know that's to be expected - I know I'll do fine and so will you! Best of luck to you!

I am being banded the 12th! I cannot wait. I have a goal of LBJ...leather by January! I know that they don't match anything, but I've always wanted to fit into some leather pants! LOL! I hope everyone has a great experience and I'll keep you all in my prayers. I've lost 9 pounds on my pre-op diet so far, and a short term goal for me is 15 before surgery!

Good luck!

Krista

Be careful not to take any Ibuprofen... it can cause ulcers in your pouch. My doctor said that's one of those meds we can never have again.

It is truly wonderful to know I won't be regaining this weight and more after the lap band, like I have with every other diet in my life!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
