I was banded July 22 and my incisions have healed good, but I just noticed yesterday on the side where my port is its kind of rounded and sticks out some. The area isn't sore or bothering me, Its just my left side is mishapen from the right side, it's pretty obvious. Is this normal? I go for my first fill Wed. the 24th of Aug.

thanks dani

Hi Dani, I dont know if its normal but I have it too, I can really feel the port just under the skin. I am seeing my Doc today for post-op check-up, I'll ask and get back to you about it if you like :D

TOTALLY normal. Try doing a search on LBT for "port" and sift through some of the posts. I know I have even posted about this. I was told by my doctor it is totally normal and it is the scar tissue that is making the port steady. It is actually a terrific sign that you are a great healer and your body does the work.

Obviously still follow up with your doctor. But I was fine.

Bandsters,

I too am having mild protrusion of the port. The real problem is that it hurts so much to strain my bdominal muscles. If I sit up from the couch (my favorite place to be) or rise from bed, my port site aches.

The best I can figure is that this is the result of vomiting so hard a few days ago. I had some vegitable stuck (chew your veggies) and spent more than two hours at work in the bathroom vomiting.

My question is, is this the result of agrivated abdominal muscles and will it pass, or is this a more serious problem that demands my surgeon's attention? I would appreciate hearing from anyone with experiance with this.

Thanks.

hmmm, I dont know Chunk! I have only been banded for 3 weeks and haven't yet vomited. But I know that if I do too much my port sides aches. And I would imagine that vomiting would be considered 'doing too much' even after you're well healed. I would suggest giving it a day or two and if you have no improvement I would call my surgeon. Hope this helps a little.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
