Tricare Reserve Select in Las Vegas

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have Tricare Reserve Select, does any one know how the process is? I was told it's just like Tricare Standard? I have attended a seminar and I was told I should gain an additional 10-15lbs to quailify for 200% or more or the ideal weight. Right now I'm 233.5 and I'm 5' 2.5". I'm so nervous. I hope I get approved. This is my last resort.

I have tricare standard and I was approved with absolutely no problem. I'm 5' 0" and I was pre surgery 218. It goes by BMI and I think mine was 42. I dont think you'd have to gain another 10-15 lbs. The process went to so quickly that I had my surgery 6 weeks after my initial consultation. I had all of my pre-op stuff done during that time such as sleep study, nutrition classes, psych eval, and everything else I needed to do. I don't think you'll have a problem. Good Luck!

I have Tricare Reserve Select. I was very pleased with the response that I recieved when i decided to go with the Band. I saw the Dr 09-15-08......... and had my surgery on 11-04-08. They paid very well. As soon as I had my pre- test and dietary and psych eval out of the way I was approved for surgery at one week out.

Did TRS have you pay alot out of pocket?

I have Tricare. The only qualification you have to have is that your BMI is at a 41 or more. Please make sure you select the correct physician in town. There is a bariatric physician in town off of Durango and 215 who has only done 5 lap bands. I was in the office and he was asking another physician over the telephone of how to do lap band adjustments. Go to the support group meetings and talk to other patients.

I took your guys advice. I attended Dr. Teng's seminar. It was very informative and well put together. He seems to really care about his patients. Pretty impressive resume of this physician. Does anyone know whether this doctor utilizes physicians assistance in his program. I know other programs in town uses P.A. and you never get to see the doctor only at the time of surgery.

I have TRS in Tx.. tricare rep said you pay your catasrophic cap only. Mine is $1000yr but we've been to the dr's alot this yr and have already had $400 applied towards the $1000 so the most my procedure would cost me is $600. If I understood her correctly. I am leaning towards Dr. Scott at UT SW.. hoping to find someone on here who went to him..

I too am in Las Vegas. I chose Dr. Umbach who is in Henderson. He's close to my house so it's a little more convenient.

I have not been approved for the Lap Band yet. I have Tricare Standard as well. I'm about 87 pounds overweight and have high cholesterol and documented fatty liver (wondering if that might help with approval). I'm just waiting for my medical records from the base before my dr. can submit my info. Hopefully within the next week or so. I'm just nervous about not getting approved. Any insights?

I'm from tx, so i dont know ur dr.. but i have tricare and i was approved. All you have to do is meet the weight requirement for tricare. With standard you dont even need a referral. Just make an appt w the bariatric dr and their office should submit everything to tricare. You should call and double check on everything tho.. follow up w dr office and ins just to be sure. Also tricare resets at the end of october so your out of pocket will be reset and you will have to pay more. I only had to pay $75!! but we had already paid $925 out of pocket over the last year for other appts and stuff.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
