I have been banded for 16 months, 101 pounds lost and have had about 8 fills. I haven't developed a cough at all since surgery. Any other symptoms?

I have been banded over a year and made it to goal in that time.

I need to know more about your cough to answer the question. I was too tight for a little while where I was fine during the day but at night would have a little liquid/food that would come up into my throat causing a need to cough.

I took some meds for reflux, slept with pillows propped so that my head and shoulders were elevated a bit higher than my stomach and stopped eating after 7 PM which helped a little bit. Having a slight unfill made the symptoms go away completely.

Yes, I have experienced the same thing, I have had my band for 2 1/4 years. Try the suggestions from HeatherO, if this doesn't help then you probably need a slight unfill. I actually ended up having to have and EGD and the doctor found a large piece of undigested food in my pouch that would block my band opening (I think it is called the stoma) at night and cause me to cough and choke at night. So I would say definitely talk to your doctor about it as soon as you can. It is probably nothing and not eating after 7pm may be all you need to do!

Good Luck !

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
