New and Lots of Questions

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band surgery on Jan 15 2009. I had my first fill on 2/25/09. I cannot tell a bit of difference since my fill. I have followed all directions for post op diet exactly as given with one minor misunderstanding, but have never felt nauseated, never vomited, never had heartburn no nothing, no problems whatsoever. Is this normal? Should I just be thankful instead of questioning whether or not this is normal? I self paid, so am thinking why did I do this if I am still hungry more often than not? Am trying hard, but definitely have had some days where I probably ate too much, but yet never felt full or had any problems? I am sure the answers are here somewhere and I have been utilizing this site since before the surgery, but finally took the time to post something. I worry about my pouch stretching, although I have never experienced any pain. The dietician has no specific info on measuring food, am I supposed to do that too? So confused, so many questions, sorry for long posting. Thanks in advance

Have you lost any weight? I had my surgery Jan 5 and my first fill Feb. 24. I can eat more than I could after surgery, but am eating way less than I used to before the surgery. The full feeling is subtle for me. Usually when I burp or hiccup, I know I'm full. My doctor calls this the "soft stop". I have had no problems what-so-ever and have lost 24 lbs. total since pre-op diet. Not as fast as I would like, but it is coming off. Good luck, and hang in there. Sometimes we are just too hard on ourselves.

thanks for your response. yes, according to my scale I have lost a total of 25lbs since starting the entire process. I hope I am on target, I don't really know where I am at in this process. I travel for my work for 13 - 20 weeks at a time, so going to a support group affliated with my surgeon is impossible and they don't really help a lot when I have called, so this is the next best thing, or so I think. Thanks again

Aprillg, your situation sounds very normal to me. Not everyone experiences nausea, vomiting or Bps.

It usually takes several fills to hit the sweet spot and lose weight consistently.

I am almost 4-months out, have not had heartburn, have never been stuck, have not vomited, and have never had the famous bps. I have not reached my sweet spot, but have experienced enough restriction to lose 40 pounds so far.

Give it time, you will get there.

I had my lap band surgery on 2/27-- 6 days ago. I wonder if I am "normal". I am still mostly on liquids but I have a feeling of hunger yet at the same time fullness. It's conflicting and I know that my brain is adjusting to this also. I am wondering how much cream Soup should I be able to eat/drink before I feel full? I get to eat an egg tomorrow and I am so excited!

Also, I feel so bloated. I could barely find anything to wear to work today because my clothes that were a little tight before surgery would be too tight to wear now this soon after surgery. How long will it be before this feeling resides, is this normal.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

OMG I remember when I was allowed to eat a scrambled egg and it was THE BEST EGG EVER!! LOL!

I was losing weight like crazy at first as well, but thinking I was eating more than I should. I say as long as yer losing weight, WOOHOO! I just had my first fill last weekend (was banded in Oct. 2007) and I don't feel much difference. I get heartburn when I've eaten too much, and it's not fun. I have never puked, though! I've lost a total of 88 lbs, and have about 50 or 60 to go.

WE CAN ALL DO IT!! LAPBANDERS UNITE!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
