March 27th is the big day!

I feel like I did when I was in labor.....what was I thinking?!

Getting a bit jittery hoping that this is my answer to my life long obesity struggle. I first joined Weight Watchers in 1971, so you can tell that I have been on this yo-yo ride for a long time.

Each time I tell someone that I am having Lap-Band surgery, it seems they have a story to tell me of someone they know who had the surgery and gained all the lost weight back. Alright already!:) I once lost 80 pounds on the Opti-Fast program and never got over my shame over gaining 100 pounds soon after my initial success.

I am having the surgery done in Pittsburgh, PA. at Magee Hospital.

March 27th is my day too! I hope all goes well with your surgery. I am trying my best not to be nervous and stick to this terrible pre-op diet.

Hopefully I will talk to you again through the the post.

Good Luck!:cursing:

Had my band done on 3/27 also! How are you doing now?/ where are you at with your fills??

I had my first fill a month ago. I see the surgeon again tomorrow--June 9th. Actually, I barely feel like I had the surgery at all. I can eat anything as long as I chew well. I had hoped that I would feel the need to eat less. But I can eat an entire cheeseburger....bun and all with no trouble. I lost more weight on the pre-op diet. Then again, I am not keeping a food diary and that may be my big problem. I need to eat three meals a day and I am not doing that.

I was like that too during my first fill but I just had my second fill and I can tell you that you will notice a big difference after that. I am up to 6 cc or 6.5 cc and I am lucky to finish a small plate of food. I am really trying to be aware of the types of food I am eating. Eating junk will get me no where so I am really working to eat more filling foods that are better for me. I am really looking at this band as a tool and I am the one that has to decide how to use it. I definitely think it will be a while before I need another fill. I hope we can all stay positive because that is the best way to succeed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
