HotMama24 0 Posted March 3, 2009 Is anyone else not on one? My doc said I didn't need to loose weight before surgery so I don't have to be on one. Anyone else the same way?
SpiritDriven71 1 Posted March 4, 2009 Is anyone else not on one? My doc said I didn't need to loose weight before surgery so I don't have to be on one. Anyone else the same way? My surgeon's office does not require it. Although, they strongly suggest to start, progressively, changing your diet to post op. I believe the liquid diet is to ensure that the liver is lean enough for surgery. My surgeon's office has had very few incidents where they could not continue the surgery due to a fatty liver. __________________

My surgery is the 26th and I'm on a liquid diet until then. He wants us on it for 2 weeks prior to surgery and then I go on Clear liquids ONLY 2 days before surgery which should be lots of fun. It's not AS uncomfortable as I thought it was going to be but it isn't fun either.

lingling 0 Posted March 19, 2009 Sorry for bogging in on the March thread - I am an April Bandster - but because I am the 2nd of April, I have started my pre-op diet today - and not many in my April group have started theirs yet - and I need some support!! This diet is AWFUL! I am on Optifast and I am starrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrving!! and it tastes GROSS!!! I have no idea how I will stomach this for two weeks!!! please tell me it gets easier
Momto3redheads 18 Posted March 19, 2009 I am on my pre op diet, too --- mostly yogurt, sf Jello, and Protein Shakes. I like the Atkins Advantage, tho, so I don't mind them - and they stave off the hunger well. We can do it - just focus on your goal! My friends who have had the surgery said the pre op diet is the worst part of the whole process.

armywife2002 0 Posted March 19, 2009 i had 5 days of liquids, but it was to clear out my intestine, not to lose weight, although it did that too, lol
msmary115 0 Posted March 20, 2009 OK, I admit it, I was supposed to start yesterday and I didn't. Now Im scared, maybe Im not ready. I just can't do it:sad: What kinds of stuff does your pre-op diet include? I've been on mine for a week and it includes cream Soups, Jello, pudding, popsicles...low fat/sugar free. I still have another week of it. Actually as of next Tuesday, I go on Clear Liquids only. It's not lots of fun but it's managable...I promise. You can do it. Once you get started it'll come easier. It'll be over before you know it. Hang in there!
