I've always wondered that! The other thing I've always wondered is how you're supposed to count calories if you eat out somewhere. It's not like the restaurant brings a nutrition facts sheet with your order. I have so much to learn!

I wonder that myself. I have even ask a waitress about the nutrition and she couldn't tell me, so I have learned, just a very very small salad with dressing on the side, grilled chicken and some kind of steamed vegetable is ok. Still don't know the calories in it, but I watch my calorie intake alot extra and make sure that when we do go out to eat, that its late enough that I wont want anything else to eat rest of the day.

Many restaurants have their nutrition information online. If I am going out to eat, I look it up beforehand so I know. That is how I know I will only SHARE my favorite dessert ever with 3 people instead of four and count it as my meal!!!! chocolate chip paradise pie at Chilis....1590 calories!!!!:)

A question that many people have probably wondered but never asked. How in the world do the people that make food figure out the cals, carbs, and Protein that are in it? I wonder this all the time, but still have no answer. Anyone out there have an idea how the determine it?

I use sparkpeople.com for keeping track of what I eat. Some restaurant foods are listed. I do not eat out much, so I really don't have a problem with this yet. I know there are some PF Chang dishes among some other restraurants.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
