Be Careful with the New Fill Procedure

Recommended Posts

I don't understand why they would have to remove the fill already in there. When you do that, you irritate the stomach. It is very sensitive. When you have your fill in, you are somewhat tight, then they remove it all and then refill you too tight then take out until you can swallow, it doesn't sound good to me.

I have a friend that the doctor did that way, her esophagus went into spasm, she totally shut off, ended up in ICU for 3 days and nearly lost her band. She sued the doctor and he paid all of her medical expenses since she had no insurance.

I think I will take my fills a bit at a time thank you.

It is Saturday, 6 days after my fill. I cannot sit and eat, I have to stand. MY STOMACH IS STILL VERY SENSITIVE. I will most certainly take my fills in increments and not this way again.

I understand what you are going through. I had my first fill three weeks ago and for the first two weeks, everything (and I mean everything) got stuck. liquids went down like a lump in my throat. I threw up several times. I was miserable. To top it off, I wasn't losing any weight. I was really questioning my judgement in getting the lap band. I decided to stick it out and wait for my next appointment on March 12th. Well, miraculously, the band gradually loosened. Now I am tight but I can usually get down most things. I still get stuck a few times a week but it is not nearly as painful as before. The weight is now starting to come off again. Weird.

Maybe you need some time like me...but if you have to stand to eat, you may be even tighter than I was.

Why have you not gone back for a slight unfill?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
