To fill or not to fill, that is the question!

Recommended Posts

I am six weeks post op and have an appt with my surgeon in 2 days. I saw him a month ago and he said he wasn't sure he would do a fill in six weeks. I was loosing the weight really well but now things have slowed down and I get hungry more often than I should. I can eat a regular size meal, and within 2-3 hours I am hungry again. But once in a great while I will sit down to Breakfast and fix me an egg with one slice of toast and can't finish it, too full. It seems like my band is NOT working during the evening meal! Any ideas out there for what I should do in 2 days, to fill or NOT???????? By the way I have lost 22 pounds in 6 weeks! I've got about 60 - 70 pounds to go.........

My guess based on your weightloss thus far is that they wont give you a fill. But every doc is different. My surgeon watches for the weightloss to slow down before she fills. She says it's better to be underfilled and have to add then to get overfilled and have to take away!

Good luck to you & great job so far!!

My Doctor doesnt just go by my weight lose but more on how i am feeling when it comes to deciding if I need a fill or not, meaning am i hungry more, do I getting hungier more often or at a shorter time after eating. You see its hard to go by do you need a fill or not because of your weight lose because if you increased your workout and movement and started to burn more cals than you are not losing weight because of restriction or the band but because of your life style change. A lot of weight lose at first is sometimes Water weight also and not fat, so the weight you are losing the first month or so might not again be from the tightness of your band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
