I am in Houston also and I went to True Results here and had Dr. Hollis as my surgeon. He was really great.

I am 4 weeks out from surgery and having my first fill tomorrow.

Pain wasn't to bad with this surgery. I had my appendix removed 5 months ago and that was more painful than this. I had my surgery done on Friday and took the next week off work and that was enough time to get back up to speed.

My insurance didn't cover weight loss surgery so I had to self-pay. They have a couple financing options if that is something you can look into. I paid $12,900 for the surgery and two years or 10 fills after that. I look at it like I would rather be paying this off and looking good than contining to be unhealthy and not happy about it.

Becuase I was self-pay I didn't have to jump through so many hoops to get the surgery. I didn't have to have a psych or nutritionist evaluation. All I needed was lab work and a EKG to make sure I was healthy enough for surgery.

Hope this answers some of your questions!!:)

Thanks so much for the feed back. It's good to know about the pain part. I am such a baby sometimes. And the cost...wow i really appreciate ya'all being so honest about it with me. I did call my insurance company and there's a good chance that i will meet the criteria, however, this all goes through the doc. I've been seeing a lot about Dr. Felix Spiegle....(sp?) He's in the woodlands....closer to me that downtown for sure. Any feed back on him? thnx barkleigh

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
