Recommended Posts

ok ..Who here thinks Star Jones had some type of weight loss surgery!? I think she did and she looks good but if she did why don't she just admit it? My whole family agree..

OMG .... I am with you on that one. She said she did it with Pilaties(sp).

there is not that much pilaties in the world, it would help but she did have something done.

Congrats on your new band!

I'm pretty sure I heard that she had gastric bypass surgery, like 7 or 8 months ago. The radio station I listen to was joking about it. Actually I was just thinking who knows what half these anorexic looking stars have had done to stay so skinny, they certainly have enough money to pay for whatever they want!

I wouldnt be surprised if lots of them would go that far to maintain super skinny status. There's always going to be surgeons around that will do it on a normal weight person for the right price.

Pilates will help your bad back and tone your midsection but it wont rip weight off you. Its not aerobic and it doesnt burn lots of calories. That peeves me when stars say things like that and dont mention that they also run 100km a week AND work with a personal trainer!

I would think it would be easier to live "in the WLS closet" with the band rather than gastric bypass though. That is the only reason I lean more towards the banding theory. Plus, the heal time would be helluva lot quicker than RNY.

Personally I think she had some sort of surgery........read what she says on her website (she looks really good, I didn't even recognize her). Although I have to agree with her, its personal.....

Questions about Health & Fitness

What has Star been doing to lose so much weight?

Ok...now this is the question of the year. The size of my "behind" has been debated more than the workings of my brain…and I find it fascinating. You might have noticed that I’ve been losing weight in the past few months…yeah, yeah, yeah, I know all about the rumors and the gossip...which of course I don't plan to feed into. However, I have found there seems to be three recurring questions in this regard. What did she do? Why did she do it? Why hasn’t she talked about it?

Okay…I’ll take them one at a time:

What did she do? I sought out the advice of my doctors, reviewed different options and together designed a long-term health plan that was right for me based on my health, my body and my lifestyle. Now that I have a grip on what I need to do over the course of my life, I now eat healthier, drink lots of Water, and exercise regularly...for my health.

Why did she do it? I listened to my body. I wasn't moving as well as I should, breathing as well as I should or living as healthy a life as I should. I also want to be around long enough to enjoy all the blessings in my life...so I had no option but to make changes.

Why hasn’t she talked about it? Let me put this gently: Quite frankly, because it’s none of your business.

I understand that I work in the public arena which gives people the right to be curious…but it doesn’t give you the right to be intrusive and I consider my health private. I also feel very strongly that everyone needs to approach long-term healthy living from a personal point of view...what worked for me, may not work for you. I also don't want to be in the position of advocating any particular weight loss method because only you and your doctor can assess what nutritional, medical and physical plan is right for you.

I am no expert in this area, but I know one thing for sure: The only long-term plan that will work must start with Portion Control and physical exercise.

Now...as an aside...Do yourself a favor and try to resist buying into the fantasized version of what is the "perfect body". The only perfect body is one that is healthy. Most of the pictures we see that stress us out so much are air brushed anyway...and I should know because some of mine definitely are! Even though we as a society seem to only be focused on size and shape; I think it is imperative that we start to teach young girls that the goal is healthy and happy…not skinny, not fat, not thin or thick…just healthy; and I mean physically healthy, mentally healthy and spiritually healthy!

For those of you out there who were asking about my weight because you actually care about me...I assure you that's exactly what I am

I think that if she did it with Pilaties she would be really toned up and she is not. Her color is different meaning she has this yellow ash look to her just like Al Roker or that Jackson guy on American Idol. I think that is the give away. Look at Oprah she does not have that color to her.

What ever she did or is doing is good for her..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
