I mean wife makes you roll down the car window bad.

Have been on high protein/low carb since 2 weeks before surgery and of course for 9 days after thus far.

Brushing 4x daily is not cutting it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated by me and those around me.

My thanks to all.

I've seen people mention using the Listerine Breath Strips.

You know it's a byproduct of your diet and won't really get better until you start eating. It means fat cells are lysing...breaking down. The ketones (that make your breath so vile) are a byproduct. So just remind yourself you're literally "blowing off fat" and be secretly ecstatic that your breath is so bad!

And my surgeon says no gum. Breath mints (sugar free) won't really mask it either, but it won't last much longer.

Yep...I've gotten it on Atkins or any low carb diet. DH calls it Puppy Breath...Like what was already said, it's a good sign if you're trying to be in ketosis. I had a constant tic-tac in my mouth.

I agree, ketosis is a common cause of bad breath during high Protein, low carb diets and other than being diligent with brushing and mouthwash along with breath mints keeping it from being worse . . . you may not be able to make it go away. You might want to google search ketosis breath remedies to see if there are better suggestions.

If you add more carbs into your diet it can take you out of ketosis with better breath, but you won't be losing as much weight. Bad breath is a temporary trade off for weight loss that wont last forever. It is worth it to melt away the pounds.

I would take a couple of weeks of none too lovely breath to maintain my girlish figure, lol.

Drink more Water and brush your tongue when you brush. Is bound to help a bit!

Hang in there! Your wife won't mind so much when she sees your sexy new post-band body!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
