I've had problems with depression and anxiety for years, even before I was even remotely overweight, and I've been on Lexapro for almost four years. Unless your panic attacks/anxiety/depression are related to your weight, I wouldn't think that weight loss would have much of an effect...it probably depends on the reason for your anxiety. Since you only have them while driving, could it have to do with that?

I also have panic attacks, however when I saw my therapist they said that losing weight and have a more managed meal schedule may help with the attacks. That she has seen some relations. Heres Hoping!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe as you lose weight you'll find a behavioral therapist who can help you stop them. The right therapist can do wonders for panic and anxiety attacks, as long as you're willing to do the work to get better! Good luck to you!

I know this is probably not what you are looking for...But...I was having problems with panic attacks starting July 2007.

I askd for prayer at church and havent had any since. They were really bad and pretty frequent. I would have diareah, nasea, light headedness and chills. All I could do when it happened was feel like crying, because I thought I was going to die.

Anyways, I really believe that the prayer is the reason they went away.

I do think you have a good point! Prayer and meditation, and of course exercise all have positive effects on mental health and help in reducing anxiety and depression.

When I saw this thread, I thought...OMG others are feeling it too. Now I wonder if its really the same thing. I have NEVER had panic attacks up until 1 week before surgery I had what I felt was a panic attack that woke me up at 4am. I was alone and felt like I could not breathe although I was breathing just fine. I felt like if I fell asleep I would stop breathing. I was terrified. I got through it and had another one day one post op. I think some of it was medication and pain. I paced and fretted. I cryed but I did not know why. I could not sit, stand or walk it off until finally I took a sleeping pill and went to sleep. My emotions are all over the board. I cry at the drop of a hat. I have never had emotional instability before and its scaring me. I am miserable today with gas pain in both shoulders. I have not had it up till now 6 days post op. I am going to ask my doctor for some Ativan or Xanax to have on hand should another panic attack ever take me over. That was awful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
