How long after the Lap Band Should You wait to get Pregnant???

Recommended Posts

I For sure want more kids...but I'm wondering how long after my band should I wait to get pregnant? I'll be 23 in May and I'm having my surgery the 3ed of March. I didn't gain a lot of weight with my first child so i don't think I'll have too much trouble with the second! Anyone Gotten prego right after the band...if so any complications? Any insight would be great!!!

Thanks

Ashley:tongue2:

At my surgeon's office it is stressed OVER AND OVER (even to me who was past all that!) not to get pregnant for at least 1 year post op. The other poster is right; it varies. Check with your surgeon. However, I'd say if you plan to get pregnant right away, wait and get the band later. The point of it is to lose weight (healthy etc of course but the goal is weight loss) and most people don't really aim for weight loss while pregnant...there are other more important things going on! I'd say either plan to wait at least a year (or more) post op, or put off the surgery.

My surgeon said 18-24 months depending on the individual.

My doctor said 18 months, but I don't think I can wait that long. My husband and I are teachers and we would LOVE to fit a pregnancy around the school year calendar. I am being banded March 12th and we will probably start trying to get pregnant next June (around the 15 month mark).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
