Hello all, my name is Amanda and I was recently banded on 2-25-09. I have had a lot of pain, but it seems to get better everyday. I had doubts about why I did this to myself directly after surgery, but now I am looking foward to each new day and getting this weight off once and for all. I started my journey at 330 pounds. On the pre op diet I lost 12 pounds, and since being banded on wednesday, I have lost 4 more. I am having pain in my chest near the bottom of my sternum, and I am wondering if that is normal. I am struggling to get all the liquid in too. I feel very weak and tired all of the time. Can anyone help me?

Its normal to feel that pain. I did for about a week. I felt horrid for about 3 weeks. Like you said everyday gets better. I had surgery on Jan 20, and I feel amazing. I found it hard to get even 500 calories a day. I drank Soup and ate sf Jello. Drank as much Protein as i could. Get you some sublingual B-12. They are in the vit section and are very small. You put them under your tongue for a few seconds and then swallow. Its teeeee tiny. Hope you start to feel better soon. I know what your going thru....Keep your chin up, it will soon be MUCH better!

I too had my surgery on 2/25/09 and have lots of pain still under my chest sternum area! Think it's still some gas left but I also had a hiatel hernia repaired and it could be that.

I am also very hungry which I didn't think I would be.....are you hungry? I have been having lots of Water, gatorade, sf Jello, sf pudding and Protein drinks but I have rumbling in my tummy and it feels like real hunger pains. I just drank a Slimfast and I guess it helped but I am off too bed now and then I won't be hungry!!!! I haven't taken any pain meds today because they just make me tired all day and I don't want to feel tired all the time! I tried just tylenol crushed up today and that was GOD awful!

I am thinking a couple more days and the gas pains and hopefully hunger pains will go away. I decided to go back to work Monday, but I may have to revisit that tomorrow depending on how I feel then!

Good luck! :0)

Yeah, I had that too. Plus I felt like something was stuck in my throat...that one I really didn't like but it's all part of the process. I had that for a while too. Just remember to chew your food very well and go really, really slow...I remember stabbing pains for a few seconds if I swallowed too fast. But everyone has different symptoms. I'm so happy for you and wish you the best! I was banded 12-20-08 and have lost 33 lbs so far.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
