Vitamin D deficiency & weight lost

Recommended Posts

My primary care Dr. ran some lab work on me and found that I am Vitamin D deficient. He prescribed some pills that I need to take once a week. I did a little research this am and found an article regarding low Vitamin D and weight lost. The article stated that Vitamin D deficieny has been linked to slow weight lost. I begining to think that it is true. I have not lost any weight in about 2 1/2 weeks and I have been excersing and eating very healthy. Does anyone want to add any information regarding this.

Thanks

Since often our bodies synthesize D from sunshine, living here in sunny south texas I think it's pretty uncommon. You do know that with insufficient D you also run the risk of Calcium problems because your body needs D to process calcium....

That being said, I think both weight loss and weight gain are complex issues with many many facets. Many things can cause rapid gain or slow loss; it isn't just "calories in vs energy used" like they used to think. Whether D was slowing your loss or not, it's good it's been found and you're "fixing" the problem. I take a supplement with TONS of D in it but even at that, without adequate sunshine the body can't process it properly...so it's good to be aware.

That's very interesting. I also had a Vitamin D deficiency according to my surgeon. He ran a bunch of lab work before surgery. I didn't know it was linked to slow weight loss though. He just told me that a daily Multivitamin should take care of it.

I had a physical last year with blood work. Most everything was ok. Pre-surgery they did some more blood work and found me to be very D deficient. I started taking a D supplement before my surgery. I've lost almost 50 pounds in 4 months, I guess maybe getting my D level up has helped.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
