Researching from So. California

Recommended Posts

My name is Holly. I'm 21. I have been overweight my entire life.

I'm not afraid or ashamed of who I am. I love each and every curve of my body.

I am afraid of what I will become. This lifestyle is all I have ever known. I don't know what its like to be different.

If this is going to be done for any reason it will be for my health. My feet already bother me, my ankles every now and then. My knees will be next. I don't want to develop arthritis.

I came here to not only research but to get support and find inspiration. I don't believe it will be that hard with all of these wonderful people here. :(

Hi Holly!

As with most of us, I have been overweight most of my life as well. Your life will change in ways that are good. I lost a bunch of weight on my own before and the quaility of life is so much better I can't even begin to tell you. Esp. since you live in the sunny bikini-clad SoCal. It's hard not to look around and wish you could look like that.

You didn't say how big you are but if you are already having problems I am guessing that you can't shop where ever you want? That is a big goal of mine. I want to be able to go into any store and not have to worry if they will have my size.

I wish at 21 I could have used this tool to lose and keep it off. Now is good too though )

Good Luck Holly...it is a big choice to make. You can send me a personal message anytime and ask any questions you may have. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
