I would go for the sleeve. I had my heart set on the Lap Band for a while, then after going to the WLS seminar and getting more information, I began to research the sleeve. It's a MUCH better choice if you ask me.

Yes, I am unhappy that I didn't know about the sleeve until after being banded. Now I have to come up with that money twice. BUT, I would have never known about the sleeve it if weren't for this board. I guess everything happens for a reason.

Also, you got banded two years ago when there was less data on the sleeve. Maybe you would have been willing to get it without the 3 and 5 year results being known, but maybe that would have given you pause.

I know I think about this all the time... why did it take me so long to admit I had a problem and that WLS was a viable solution? What if I'd had surgery 20 years ago instead of going to Nutri/system?

But then I realize that 20 years ago I'd have a surgery type that would put me at risk for Vitamin deficiency and regain and very little support. Even 10 years ago the sleeve wasn't around so I'd probably end up with a band that eventually came out.

I don't necessarily believe that everything happens for a reason, but I do believe in not dwelling too much on the past and looking for the good aspects of my decisions. So the bad aspects are that I struggled with obesity for 20 years but the good is that I got a surgery that feels like it was designed just for me and my food issues and has a high chance of working with low long-term risks.

Thanks Mac. I think the sleeve will be a much better choice for me too. If I didn't know about the sleeve, I would think I just needed a fill. I am scared to death to get one after being too tight. I am glad that soon, I will never have to worry about that again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
