Painful burbing since banding 2/24/09

Recommended Posts

This seems to be my only real problem besides feeling like I have a vice wrapped around my midsection. Once I burp the pain subsides. I burp with any liquid I take. DOes that sound pretty normal? I have not had to take my prilosec. I have had NO heartburn. Maybe thats gone for good!

It is definitely normal. However, over time it gets better. You find ways to kind of initiate mini, internal burps which can't really be heard that releases the pressure and then it is not so bad. I can't explain how to do it . . . but it does happen and it works well.

I was banded back in december, and I still do lots of burping..I'm assuming it's the norm for bandsters..Fine by me, I never claimed to be a "lady" anyways,lol...

My burps rate on the scale of 8s and 9s on a 1-10 scale. It does not hurt as much anymore as I was banded this past Tuesday. Mostly it happens after eating or drinking anything. Its like a hiccup burb and several loud ones in a row. I started using Gax X as someone here recommended. No real difference noted. Excuse me is becoming my middle name.

When I was first banded I had painful burps. I found this to be because I was taking too large of drinks at one time. Before I was banded I would drink a lot of liquid at one time, and that is painful after the band. To help with this I used a toddlers sippy cup for about a week after banding. This taught me how to take smaller drinks. Playtex makes one that looks like a small travel coffee mug, I found it in the baby section of Wal-Mart.

I still burp, but there is not the pain associated with it when I was first banded.

Good luck with your band!

I was banded on 2-24. I have learned not to eat or drink anything cold or with salt they have since went away. Apple juice or peach made it worse.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
