Has anyone been told not to take motrin post op? I know someone said something about it but I missed the point. Does anyone out there take motrin after being banded? I haven't tried it yet but I would like to.

It makes blood thinners less effective. If you're like me, your doctor has you on stuff to reduce your chance of blood clots pre-op.

Motrin is not suggested for use if you have a band due to possible increased risk for erosion and gastritis. Some surgeons allow it if you've had your band for over a year, and/or if you pair it with a Proton Pump Inhibitor, and/or in other circumstances. BUT, for the most part, it is not recommended.

Yeah, guess I had to be reminded of all that stuff. I have a severely irritated rotator cuff and would love to try some motrin for it but was leary of it. Don't want to mess up the banding. I guess i can stand it for of few more weeks then surgery. Of course first thing recommended are NSAIDS.

I was kinda wondering the same thing. What is good to take if you have a headache or pain?? I don't have either very often, but would like some clarification. I don't know what is good and what is not. Aspirin?? Tylenol?? Aleve?? Excedrin?? Whiskey?? (just kidding). Thanks for the post desert woman - now I know not to take Motrin. Good luck to you and take care!! Becky

Typically it is on the restricted list. You can get an occasional OK to use it on a very limited basis from your doctor but it is frowned upon for the most part.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
