Yikes! Rude awakening!

Recommended Posts

I just had a fill, so I'm on liquids for 2 days (then mushies for 2). Yesterday, I decided to have a small "Carribean Dream" smoothie at smoothie King to get in some good Vitamins. The ingredients are listed as just payaya, banana and strawberry, so it sounded band-appropriate.

Was craving another one today, so I got one, but asked for the calorie info (then looked it up on-line). Turns out that the drink has honey and another sweetner in it and has a whopping 395 calories! YIKES! I won't be doing that again!

Fortunately, I'm not getting so many calories while on liquids, so the scale was down this morning. I'm now at my all-time post-op low. . and just 3.2 lbs to Onederland!! Woo-hoo!!

congrats...very close to onderland!!!!!

i love smoothie king - but only go there after a fill & when i'm sick. even w/all the Protein & Vitamins they do have additives such as honey that add to the calories. when i had my wisdom teeth out not too long ago - i had 2 mango smoothies w/extra Protein twice a day...:)

Congratulations!!! I can't wait to get to Onederland myself. Thanks for the heads up about smoothies. I never even thought to look how many calories they may have.

ok two questions:

1) What is Onederland?

2) If i assume Onederland is your goal weight then why go for a fill so close to your goal? do you want to be lower than your goal?

Either way congratulations on your success!!! keep it up!

Yikes . . . 395 is a ton of calories!!! I love Starbucks Frappucinos but I am afraid they are probably just as bad so I have been avoiding them.

We have a place called Tropical Smoothie Cafe here, and you can ask for slenda instead of turbinado (the sugar they use). You can also get soy or whey Protein. I get a 24oz orange passion with splenda and whey Protein. It has calories and 27 grams of protein.

They work out well on the liquids stage and if you are out and need something, but would rather not venture into a drive thru.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
