March... our 6 month bandiversary... where are we now?

Recommended Posts

So we're 6 months post op this month (well March). Where are we? What are we doing to continue our successes or make us more successful in this journey? Winter has been harsh on many of us, and spring will soon be here. What will you change with the season's?

This has been like Mr Toad's Wild Ride for me.

I stopped walking, can you believe it! Cold did me in. I have been one big frozen popsicle for months. I am looking forward to the time change and to getting out.

I have been very careful with what I eat, no bread, no sugars, no fats. I have become "lax" with chewing and small bites. BIG MISTAKE I got a reminder this evening - I got stuck - and I am going back to my basics.

Even still, I keep to the plan the Dr gave me, I just need to get off my butt!

Well, I'm not as far along as I'd like to be. I too was done in by the cold weather, and am waiting on spring. I'd like to get outdoors and walk the dogs down the street while pushing the 2yos little car thing. I wish I'd lost more weight in the past 6 mo. I've been kind of lazy for the past two weeks, and making some not so good food choices, because I haven't wanted to cook either. I need to get back on track in the worst way. Finding the energy and initiative is the hard part....

As long as you keep making small steps to the big goal, noone can falt you for anything. I think any weight lost for any of us is a great thing.

I am very happy with my progress so far, but I am not constricted by the weather as it sounds you have been. I live in FL, it has gotten cold for us here this winter, but not as bad as any where up north.

Just keep on trucking and in the end we will all see wonderful results.

Waving to everyone!

Today is my 6 months bandiversary and I am happy that I had the surgery. I know for sure I wouldn't be where I am now without the band.

With that said, I've had my struggles. I re-introduced ice cream into my life several months ago. Huge no no. I've had a few binge episodes and actually I am regrouping.

I don't want to go back to the old depressing, feel like crap because of the guilt of "I'm staring over tomorrow" life no more.

So with that said, I'm happy and I would love to hear how everyone else is doing.

I won't hit my 6 month anniversary till the end of the month but it's coming up fast. I haven't lost has much as I would have liked by now (around 38 lbs). But I guess with being laid off from work and going through that stress my eating has been off - doing alot me stress eating and confort food eating.

I am going to be moving to GA at the end of the month and will have to find a new doctor very quickly since I think I need to get another fill and I can't see my current doctor before I leave.

Since I have all the time off from working I have to get my self in the rountine of working out every day. I don't have an excuse any longer.

Does any body have any advice on how to get motived and to start losing again?

Thanks

What works for me, generally, is a physical activity oriented around social interaction ... so I joined a local Tae Kwon Do school with one of my friends from work, and we're going 3 times a week for an hour. My boyfriend and I walked a couple of miles together, but he's not really on the bandwagon to do this on a consistent basis.

My thyroid is all jacked up again, so I have a lot of problems getting up in the mornings, and the mood swings are just horrendous. I'm a trial attorney, and there's just not a lot of time to do all the stuff I should be doing, including the gym, particularly when all you want to do is go home and sleep.

I've had 7ccs in and I can still eat mostly anything I want. My next fill is Tuesday. I can't say I'm too upset about my slow progress, because I've gone from a 24 to an 18, and I do three hours of Tae Kwon Do a week. All things being equal, even if the scale doesn't move much, I'm making different choices that put me on a path, you know?

Well, I'm officially 6 months post op (and one day now). IS anyone else having trouble getting into the site?

I've not done well this month. I've been sick with head colds, tummy bugs, and just generally feeling YUCKY and achy. I've actually gained back what I'd lost and feel worse about it. But with the tummy trouble and even when my head colds were at their worst I hit the comfort foods (chicken Soup, ice pops, toast). Most were sliders. Good thing was I didn't dehydrate, bad thing was that I was constantly hungry. Sometimes I didn't care, other times just one more ice pop. One more cup of Soup. Yea... now I'm paying that price. But as most people, when I'm sick the exercise went out the window. :) Now I'm having a problem with my knee, and hip (same side). I see my primary on wednesday (and surgeon's pa). Hoping to get some information. I also missed the last two months of support groups. Some family drama has made it impossible to have a baby sitter. I am going to the meeting on thursday morning. It's a lapband specific group. Maybe that will help. I'll be bringing one of the twins with me, but hoping my mom will take the other. It's only an hour.

I am looking forward to the full effects of spring. I used to love walking... and am hoping to get back to it. Last spring Brandon and I took the twins in wagon's and were walking a full 3 miles. Not sure we'll start out that far right off. But definitely the 2 miles we were doing in half an hour. The twins are getting bigger and in that getting heavier, and more of a challenge. I'm also hinting to my bf that I'd love a bike and bike trailer for the twins.

Well that's my 1 am thoughts :scared2:

How are the rest of our samauri's?

Thanks Terri for doing a monthly check in, this should work much better.

Man, second time around has been tough, I have lost 14 lbs. Since surgery. I really think weather has a big part in this small loss. Last time I was banded in March so was able to jump right into out door exercise.

I am still Zumba dancing and just love it. it is very cardio and strengthening. it is great for the self esteem too!

I am taking 1 day at a time. My last banded group is celebrating there 2 year anniversary, most are either at goal or very close. Two are having major plastic surgery. I just can't wait to have it done. My stomach is hanging just horribly.

We can do this!

Cheers, Janine:thumbup:

It appears I have a slip. :sneaky: I'm so sad! The other possibility is a dialated esophagus. Not sure which is better/worse. Either way I may be back in the OR again. Not sure what way to look, or where to turn for advice.

Teri, I am so sorry to hear that! I just saw the thread, and was happy to be catching up on everyone's news, then bam. Is there any chance an unfill with fix the problem, or do you know yet? I'll keep you in my prayers.

Funny that I found this thread today. I just put on into a size smaller pants this morning. My husband had said this weekend that my jeans were too big, but I didn't think I was ready to move into the smaller size yet. I was happy to tell him that he was right, and I was wrong - but this one time only.

I've had pretty consistent weight loss, nothing stellar, and I've hit my fair share of plateaus, but I know if I keep plugging along, it's going to come off. I feel like I've lost at a very healthy rate.

More than the pounds, the biggest change I've noticed is how much energy I have now. I guess you take 50+ pounds off of someone, and they tend to walk faster and with much less effort.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
