Well had my first fill and it was easy. I am so happy to know that it isn't a big deal. Don't think that he put much in. When I asked my Dr. what he had put in he told me not to get hung up on a number, that it is all about how you feel. So I think that it was only a little bit, I am not really feeling any restriction when I eat, maybe a little less hungry, but also didn't have any problems after the fill.

I did ask about drinking Water too fast. He gave me about 10 oz of water to drink after my fill and I told him I felt like I had been drinking too fast. He said it should take about 3 minutes to drink that amount of water. So I probably need to slow down a little bit, but still he made me feel that it was ok to drink more that just a sip at a time.

Fab by 50 hope that you find out the same thing from your Doctor for us. Glad that we are both doing so well to be able to have banding done at this time in our life.

I also had lots of chemo treatments and radiation that lasted almost 9 months. I couldn't understand how I could gain weight having chemo treatments once a week. So many other people lost weight. But I have always been overweight even as a child.

Well I am off to SIP some water, take care to all!!!

I'm happy to hear that your first fill went so well. I like how your doctor said not to get hung up on a number. I'll have to remember that!

Have a great weekend!

Hi everyone

I had my first fill yesterday, I feel absolutly the same so far. I'm on liquids thru today. I was told that this fill would not really make a difference, I have another fill in two weeks that one will make a difference. I can't wait to feel a little more restriction. I did ask about the Water issue and was told that it does not matter how much you drink because it goes right thru and will not damage your band. It was really no big deal having the fill done, they gave me a shot of lidocain before and that stung a little my next fill I will skip any numbing meds and just get the fill. I never had it numbed when I had chemo and it never hurt. NEWBEGINNINGS I'm glad your fill went well too. Do you have another scheduled for the next few weeks?

Take care everyone!

Bernadette

I wish I had another scheduled soon, my next fill is on May 29th. I asked my Dr about liquid or soft foods after my fill, he said I didn't have to change my diet unless I had a problem with something. I was kinda looking forward to some quick weight loss by going on liquids, but food is so much better. Needless to say I had no problem, not even the 1st day. I probably ate as much as anyother day on the afternoon of my fill if not even a little bit more. I guess that I was just trying it out to see if any restriction. I know my day, well all of our days will come when we will only by able to eat that 1/4 of a cup but not for me yet.

Well glad that this week is over, did get alot of exercise in. Weather here is so nice this time of the year. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Ginger1634, interesting that you had Dr. Fielding and he only cut 2 incisions. Dr. Ren was my surgeon but I could have sworn that as I was waking up from anesthesia, one of the nurses said that Dr. Fielding did most of my surgery. However, I have the standard 5 incisions. I was banded after you...on 4/27. Maybe Dr. Ren did the incisions and then Dr. Fielding took over? I don't know...it's a bit of a mystery to me.

I've heard Dr. Fielding has good bedside manner...I only saw him at the info session though. I only met Dr. Ren once, she seemed nice enough but fairly quick...not surprising given how busy that practice is.

Hi again

I had my second fill yesterday and I definatly can tell the difference. I tried to eat a little bit of chicken last night and it came right back up. I finally know what PB means LOL. I was not supposed to eat anything so it was my fault to start with. My fill center says liquids the day of the fill and mushies the next day, I should have followed the directions better. I can have a fill once a week if I want and I think I will stick to that until I get good restriction. I did not get the shot to numb the skin ahead of time and it did not hurt at all. Im so happy that I had this done, Im down 25 lbs and I love it!

Okay I had my first episode of getting food stuck, I think. I ate 2 bites of rice and all of the sudden it felt like I needed to throw up or burp. I tried to burp and foamy food came up, does that make any sence?? I was sick for about a half an hour and I just kept having more foamy, slimy stuff come up. Im sorry if this is too graphic. This was very uncomfortable.I hope I don't have this happen too often. I might get another fill on Thursday but Im not sure yet. I want to make sure I really need it before I do it.

Have a great week!!

Fab by 50,

I feel your pain. I experienced the same thing with PB. I've only had one fill (May 6th) and I am stuck in another way--I haven't lost anymore weight.

One of my problems was that I was eating around 800 calories. My nutritionist insist on 1000-1200 so I'm at a standstill. Anyone else at a standstill??

Yes I'm at a stand still too, I have stayed at the same weight or over a week. I have to say that I have not been good on my food choices either. We also have been getting tons of rain so my walking schedule has been cut way back too. I need a swift kick in the butt to get me working harder again. I can get another fill tomarrow if I want but I'm debating..not sure if I need it or not. I got food stuck again!!! yesterday and I don't like that at all. I plan on getting a good walk in tonight rain or shine!

Can someone give me a cyber boot to the butt!!!!

Well I hope that everyone is doing well, just wanted to check in. Had my 2nd fill last Friday, now I am finally feeling a little restriction. I am so happy that I did this. Really getting use to the new way of life. Not that I don't eat too fast at sometimes, but have been very lucky.

How is everyone else doing? Miss the updates from everyone. Bernadette, I hope that you have gotten that kick in the bottom by now and thing are good. Take care everyone!!!

I've been avoiding this site lately. I've gotten so discouraged. I'm not losing near as much as everyone else. I've really only lost about 15 lbs since surgery. Should be more by the time I weigh in tomorrow - I can feel a difference this week I think.

I have some restriction but think I will need a 3rd fill in a few weeks. I've been making better food choices but I've got to start exercising again. I stopped by using the excuse that it was too hot - and it was a few weeks ago but it's cooled back down some now! Also, I'm in the middle of a divorce so I've used that as an excuse as well. I'm tired of making excuses and for goodness sake, I had surgery to lose weight! I have to get my act together!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
