Why don't I feel good?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Well I have to admit I am a bit bummed today. I thought I would feel better than I do. I was banded 8/10. I am still pretty tired and do not have that much energy. Am I expecting too much?

yes dear one. you are expecting a lot. You just had major surgery. Because it was done laproscopically, (of course, your surgeon spelled it corectly...), and we only have little incisions we think that it was no big deal.

Currently your body is going AH! AH! AH! PANIC!!!! THERE'S SOMETHING WEIRD IN HERE!!!!! While the band, tube and port are small, they are still weird things in your body, and your body has to move things and adjust things and all that good stuff. You may still have the anethesia still lingering in your body. But no doubt you are really sleepy and wanting to take lots of naps.

Well, Vines said it best. It is hard to remember that we went through major surgery. You've now got something in your stomach that the body has to get used to, and you have to get all that anesthesia out of your system. It's gonna take a little while to get back to normal, but you will. :)

Vines is so good. I do remember those naps, they were wonderful until the phone would ring. Lisa Marie if you are on medication be sure you are taking it. I was on blood pressure meds and it was a hassle to crush them all. On top of that I had the Vitamin, Calcium, Fiber choice, gas x and so on. Drink, drink, drink, martinis.....oh wait um...... Water, gatorade, crystal light, light grape juice. You don't want to become dehydrated.

Don't forget most of all SMILE A LOT!!!:banana:banana:banana

Lisa Marie.....

Common girl...you shouldn't be down. This is what you couldn't wait for!! Your just tired. Take lots of naps and take it slow. You will feel whole again soon! It took me a good week and a half ~ two weeks to get back to my semi normal state. I am by no means a whimp and the pain didn't have me down....I was just exhausted!! Does this sound familur?? "Be good to yourself, be gental with yourself..." Dont make me get Mauri on you... :D And also remember, if your light headed and feelin woozy apple juice mixed with water...the sugar in the apple juice will level you out a bit. Hang in there...the best is yet to come. Right now isn't a time for weight loss...the weight you do loose is a bonus! Right now is a time to heal..remember that.

PM me if you need to talk.....

SEE YA LATER

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
