I need help!

I have a problem. I've had a cold, upper respitory infection, etc. All of a sudden, I can't eat anything solid. Is it possible that all the coughing has irritated my band or caused it to slip? I haven't called the doctor yet because I am afraid he will want to take all the fill out and I'm not sure I want that. I have been doing liquids for the past couple of days and was able to eat some cheesy scrambled eggs last night. (1 egg and about 1/4 cup of melted cheese) I felt very, very full afterwards but nothing came back up. liquids and cottage cheese and yogurt go down fine.

Has anyone else experienced something similar after or during an illness. I figured I'd give it another day, try solids again and call the doctor if there is still a problem.

Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

The good thing is I've lost four pounds in the past week and seem to have broken the plateau. I am feeling better after two sets of antibiotics and a round of prednisone. I hope the weight loss will continue because I have been stuck on the same four or five pounds for months now.

I have not personally gone through this but I have read about it here and talked to one patient at my doctors office that went through it. The excess phlegm and the stress on your body can cause you to feel tighter. If you feel like you are getting over the flu then I would just wait it out but if you are not eating better in a few days call your surgeon. It sounds like you are slowly getting your appetite back though. The coughing should not have done any damage, we cough with our diaphragm and lungs, all above the band. Now if you had stomach flu that would have been a different story.

I saw my surgeon this morning. The good news, after ten days of liquids I have lost 6 pounds. (I guess it is worth it)

He said the symptoms I have could be one of three things:

1. a prolaps (I think that means a slip) where the stomach has pushed it's way up into the band. He said usually if it is that I would be able to eat a lot more. I can barely eat 1/4 cup without pain. :cool2:

2. an ulcer

3. band too tight

I have an upper endoscopy and an upper GI scheduled for Friday so we will know then. I'm hoping for the tight band because that sounds like the easiest fix. I guess it will be liquids for the rest of the week.:tt2: Brings back memories of a year ago:lol:

Have a great day!

Good luck, St. Louis Gal! I hope it’s just a too tight band and an easy fix. Let us know how things go once you get your tests done.

Let us know, St. Louis. I am hoping it is a too tight band caused by irritation, and that just resting it will resolve it.

Thanks Tapshoes, That is what I am hoping for too. Whatever it is, we will deal with it. My doctor is fairly conservative and won't just start treatment on something that it may be. He wants the tests to make sure. I like that about him.

I'll let you know Friday evening. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

I had my upper endoscopy today. He said everything looks good, no prolaps, band not overly tight. The upper GI yesterday showed a hiatal hernia and reflux but my doctor want to read the x-rays himself and see me again next week for a follow-up.

I really don't have any other news. I'm feeling a little better and able to eat semi-solid food so I'll try something harder for dinner. Eating all liquids brings back memories that I would prefer to forget.

Thanks for all of your support.

I know what you mean about liquids. If I'm stuck and threatening a PB, my main thoughts are, "Oh, man, I don't want to go on liquids for a day!" Luckily it often passes without the PB, but I do hate having to do the liquid diet.

Good that you don't have something serious. Hopefully it will resolve soon and you can be back to normal.

I agree with both of you here - I hate it when I PB and then have to do liquids. It has only happened a few times in the last 6 months, but it is what keeps me eating slowly and chewing a ton.

About the "cold and phlegm" issue - I got a cold in December, and I had to go on liquids for a few days - for some reason, all that phlegm that went into my stomach made things not pass through as well. After the cold was gone, I was back to fine.

Thank you both. I think it probably was the cold that caused the problem but I am anxious to see what the doctor has to say. I can eat again now that the cold has gone away. I'm also glad we did the tests just to make sure that my band is a-ok. I'll let you know what he says after I see him next week.

Well! The saga continues...

The nurse called and told me that the doctor had recieved the report from the upper GI and it showed a prolaps so we need to do an unfill. He wants to see the actual films when I go in on Monday so I have to go collect them at the X-ray place and take them with me. He said he didnt' see a prolaps on the upper endoscopy. She seemed surprised when I told her I had been eating just fine all week.

I'll let you know on Monday what is going on. Since they may have to do an unfill, I can't eat or drink anything six hours before my appointment. bummer!!!

Oh SLG, how disappointing! Here I was thinking everything was okey-dokey, and now they say you have a prolapse? Something doesn't sound quite right, but then again, I'm not a Doc, so what do I know?

I've had 2 slight unfills, but I've never had to fast before hand...doctrs rules certainly are variable, aren't they?

Good luck on Monday and keep us posted.

StLG, OMG! I'm so sorry to hear that. I wonder how that could have happened? Did your doctor happen to mention how that may have come about? And is that an actual slip?

It did sound like one, because I've read on here many people's symptoms of one and it sounded really similar.

Well, hang tough and let us know how it goes. :w00t:

Thanks for the support! From what I understand a prolaps and a slip are the same thing. Not a good thing. I'll just have to wait until Monday to see what he says. Waiting is the hard part. My biggest fear is gaining weight while my band is unfilled. I don't want to lose ground.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
