Food coming up at night

Recommended Posts

I am looking for opinions from anyone who may have experienced this. Since my last fill which was almost two months ago I have experienced this situation occasionally. In the middle of the night if I lay on my stomach, the contents of my pouch will come back up.

I know that I needed a fill the last time I had one and I am not having any common symptoms that indicate that I am too tight. My last fill was done under fluoro and everything was fine. It just seems like some of the food is staying in my pouch hours later (like 8 hours later) and laying on my stomach causes it to come up. I do not wretch or gag and there is rarely any acid with it, it just comes up on its own and only when I am on my stomach.

It did happen more often right after the fill. I found that having my dinner by 5 PM and not drinking tea after 6PM helps. I have always been a stomach sleeper and have done pretty good to train myself to sleep on my side or my back but I am usually much more comfortable on my stomach.

If I am awake when I lie on my stomach, I can tell right away if it is not going to work because I can feel gurgling sensations but if I roll over in my sleep I don't realize until the food has come up into my throat.

I will mention it to my doctor on my next visit but until then was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

No I am eating the right portions, getting in the proper calories, food and liquid is going down fine, not getting stuck or sliming and no acid problems. Nothing else out of the ordinary compared to the first 8 months of being banded...except the last 20 pounds have been slow to leave me.

Join the club on the last 20 lbs LOL

Any sore throat when you wake up ?

I wonder if its just the position your laying in is just pushing the food up ? I am not a stomach sleeper so I dont know ?

I hope you figure it out , it does not sound fun at all

No sore throat.

It is definitely related to position. I have always slept on my stomach with both arms tucked under my pillow. Some nights I desperately want to try to find a way to sleep on my stomach and have found that if fold my arms underneath me and prop my ribcage up on my arms so that my abdomen is not pressed into the mattress then the food stays down...but by morning I have no sensation in my arms and my ribs hurt so that is hardly a solution!

My next appt. with the fill doctor is in a week or so and I think it can wait until then, just wondered if anyone else has experienced it...guess I am just a wierdo :w00t:

Congrats on your success...we are both oh so close!

that's how i end up sleeping most nights - and i have tingly hands just about most mornings. i do it because my port is bothersome...

btw - i think it was you jodi who talked about flat out wraps, i LOVE them. thanks!

I had it too in the same way. There wasnt acid involved, only food/liquids. It did make me cough however in that if I was sleeping the sudden presence of food or liquid in the throat would give me a slight choking sensation. It was also the same in that it could have been food eaten many, many hours before.

sleeping with my upper body propped higher on a pillow helped, but that isn't practical for a stomach sleeper. I tried reflux meds but it didnt really address the issue. The only real help came with a slight unfill that got rid of it completely. I didn't have to lose very much fill in order to address it completely . . . and I found I could still lose weight on less of a fill.

Thanks Heather! At least I know now that I am not the only one to experience this.

I suspect my doctor just might want to do a slight unfill.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
