What is wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

I need a kick in the behind. I was banded on 3-13-08 and have only lost 50 lbs. I have not lost anything since September of 08. I am getting a fill that should have taken place months ago this Monday.

I am quickly finding myself getting back into old habits. I don't exercise outside of the 1 night a week I play tennis.

I am running through more and more drive-thrus.

The one thing I am really worried about is I still have restriction. I will eat 3 to 4 bites of something and start salivating like crazy. Then once that passes I can eat almost anything. It feels like there is no restriction. I have to wait for it to pass but once it does, it is on.

I am feeling really upset at myself and myself only. I need advice on some small things I can begin to do now.

Has anyone else out there been through this and if so, how did you overcome it? Thanks in advance.

Julie :-)

Hey Julie,

50 lbs is a lot of weight to lose! I know it's hard because it would be so awesome if the weight magically came off- but for some of us it is a struggle!

1.Try re focusing- get out your old photos of the old you and hang them up on your mirrors, fridge, even in your car. It will remind you of where you were and how much you have changed since. It might help you when you have those urges to fall back into old habits.

2. If you aren't able to excercise as much- you got to figure out a way to eat better. Try some low cal foods that you can "fill" up on so you don't feel deprived.

Here are some:

egg white crepe

spray pam in a pan, put in some egg whites make them really flat, then sprinkle splenda and cinnamon- see if you like it

Isopure shake

Isopure low carb chocolate powder

ff milk

tsp Peanut Butter

ice

blend till smooth

fake lasagna

low fat riccotta cheese

low fat tomatoe sauce

kraft parm cheese

heat in microwave

sugar free, fat free pudding or fudgiscles

last but not least, make sure you are drinking at LEAST 64 oz. of Water a day so you can flush the fat out of your system. You can even use crystal light if you need to- but keep drinking!

Thank you so much. I appreciate your suggestions. I am glad you mentioned the Water. That is such an easy one and I am back to drinking a ton of soda pop again, diet, but none the less, pop.

Thanks for the recipes as well. I am getting a fill on Monday the 2nd of March. I hope this will jump start me again.

Does anyone have pain at their port site when they eat a lot of food? I have to mention this to my doc. I have alots of pain at the port site once I have ate a lot.

Thank you again. I look forward to hearing from others as well.

Julie

I thought we were not to have any carbonated drinks because it tends to swell the pouch???

You got that one right Harold! It will could inflate the pouch...stretch it out...etc.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
