Bet you're sorry you voted for Obama now

President Obama went to Dover Air Force base to observe the flag covered coffins of those who died in war. He did this at night and without a photo op. bush never went to Dover Air Force Base to view the coffins of soldiers.

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Standing in the pre-dawn darkness, President Barack Obama saw the real cost of the war in Afghanistan: The Americans who return in flag-covered cases while much of the nation sleeps in peace.

In a midnight dash to this Delaware base, where U.S. forces killed overseas come home, Obama honored the return of 18 fallen Americans Thursday. All were killed in Afghanistan this week, a brutal stretch that turned October into the most deadly month for U.S. troops since the war began.

The dramatic image of a president on the tarmac was a portrait not witnessed in years. Former President George W. Bush spent lots of time with grieving military families but never went to Dover to meet the remains coming off the cargo plane. Obama did so with the weight of knowing he may soon send more troops off to war.

Former President Bush didn't go with a photo op. He went on his own with his wife and someone video taped it and took pictures.

And, why do you feel the need to "one up"? I wasn't posting that story so you could come back and tell me something even more wonderful about Obama.:) Even though it wasn't more wonderful, IMO. Grow up!

What is meeting dead people going to accomplish? Could he encourage them now that they're gone? NO. I suppose it is a source of support for the families. But meeting those that are alive and thanking them for their service and welcoming them home was a great source of encouragement and support for them. He did a nice thing, and they weren't doing it for money or recognition.

Poor patty. You do not understand the respect involved in the president honoring those flag draped coffins. What he did was personal and important. And very respectful.

Did Dubya do his little cheerleading dance on the tarmac and yell through a megaphone "Mission Accomplished!" again?

Sorry if we can't respect someone who recklessly caused the deaths of many more Americans than died on 9-11 and then shows up to act like he in some way, had a hand in bringing them home. As Bugs Bunny would say, What a Maroon!

Let's just file this under "revisionist history" that the lunatics on the right keep doing. They think the country has anmesia. bush never went to Dover Air Force base to see the flag draped coffins. With or without cameras despite what that nobody Liz Cheney professes or others who share her fantasies.

There are those who keep trying to change the facts of the disasterous eight years of bush. Those of us grown ups on the left have to stop that from happening. I know I'll do my part. How about you, BJean?

And only an immature person could ask what viewing the flag draped coffins could do. If a president is going to send soldiers to war he at least should see what the consequences of doing so are. Up close and personal. bush was a coward.

Obama has never gone to welcome any troops home. He is a coward! Bush is not the president any more. He didn't have to do such a thing. He went out of his own gratefulness like the other people there. A real American! Unlike Obama who is too busy being corrupt and spending the cash flow on all his vacations and spending splurges!

Considering that bush sent over 4400 soldiers to their deaths in Iraq for an unnecessary war based on lies, it is the least he could do.

As for vacations, well, more selective amnesia, since bush took more vacations that just about any president when he went to crawford county texas and pretended to be a cowboy. In fact he was there instead of the white house where his a** belonged after receiving a memo entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike within the United States" resulting in the deaths of 3000 americans.

Talk about your revisionist history! Good grief, patty. Angry much? "...spend cash flow"? How does that work?

The first year Bush was in office he took more vacation than anyone could imagine! I remember early in his administration, a 5 week vacation to Crawford that people were stunned by. Do you have a clue how many of your tax dollars were spent on buildings and revisions for the secret service at Bush's ranch?

And it is amazing to me that Republicans have the nerve to criticize Michelle Obama for going on that trip to Spain. She's a person. She represents America as our First Lady but she's also a person. She was unable to attend the funeral of her good friend's father and she wanted to spend some time with her friend and also let her daughter lend some emotional support and friendship to the man's granddaughter. The people who are criticizing her are heartless. It isn't her fault that there's an American policy that requires a full complement of secret service personnel when she goes anywhere. You want her to be a prisoner in the White House?

And if George W. Bush was such a caring individual why did he send our men and women off to that godforsaken country to be put in harm's way in the first place! Two words: greed and pomposity. In fact, if you go look in the encyclopedia his picture is right beside those words. Or should be.

If he didn't have a guilty conscience maybe he wouldn't have a need to try to make himself feel better by glad-handing the returnees.

Sorry, his actions speak loudly and we will never, ever forget, no matter how hard the crazy right wingers try to change voters view of him and his administration.

How'my doin' Cleo's?

Cleo's I see you remember our little cowboy's adventures on the ranch too. Can you believe the nerve of Republicans? They never cease to amaze, do they?

I've heard Jeb Bush is going to take a run at the office. Swell. I wonder if Republicans have forgotten that his wife went on a shopping spree in Europe and then lied at Customs and said she didn't buy anything? They busted her butt. That's the kind of people the Republicans admire, right? They've probably all done it and think it's just what the privileged folks do. While the rest of us honest people list our purchases and pay the freaking duty taxes.

You're doing great, as usual, BJean. We truthtellers must be vigilant and make sure those necons don't alter, change, delete or omit any of bush's failed policies of his 8 years. Especially since we are living with his messes every day as Pres. Obama tries to clean them up.

Bush Made 77 Trips to Crawford TX at $226,072 a Pop

This is a repost from June 2, 2009, when Wingnuttia was in an uproar over the Obamas' visit to New York City for dinner and a show. Reposting just the relevant info regarding the costs of the Bushes' frequent vacations to Crawford. I guess if you own a private mansion it's okay to take as many vacations as you like, but not if you have to pay (out of your own pocket) for a hotel.

At a bare minimum,
for the flights alone
, Bush's 77 vacation trips to Crawford cost us $226,072 per trip. That's
$17,407,544
so he could ride his bicycle in the woods and clear brush for the cameras.

bush = big spender in chief.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
