outpatient surgery expectations

How many people stayed overnight with complications? I'm scheduled for tomorrow and I don't have any health issues and usually do well with anethstesia. I was wondering how long you're actually at the hospital for. I go in at 10:45.

My doc usually keeps patients overnight but let me go...even for my 2nd surgery in under 3 weeks! I had delays with my barium xray too but all told it was pretty quick....6-7 hours or so.

Banded Jan 20. Reported to same day surgery (connected to the hospital) at 8am for a 9:00 surgery. Finally went in OR at 9:30a. Was out of recovery room by noon, talking with doc at 4 pm about how well I was doing (even with a hiatal hernia repair) and was out the door by 5pm. You'll do fine. Just take it slow getting in/out of the car on the way home. You'll be sore, but feel OK.

I went into the hospital at 6 a.m. my surgery was scheduled for 7:30, due to the bad weather we had I didn't go in until 9:30, was home by 2. That's even with a hiatal hernia repair.

I was only in the hospital for 10 hours. I probably could have left earlier if the doctor had written his orders sooner. Most insurance will allow overnight stays if the patient or doctors request it.

I would request the overnight stay if your insurance allows it.

I would also NOT be having surgery by a doctor that did NOT want to keep me overnight.

Just a personal preference. It is a foreign object, going inside your body, being sewn to an organ. Just to be safe, stay overnight....hey, the food is AWESOME!

I had to be there at 7:30 for 9:00 surgery. I was home by 3 pm. I did NOT want to stay overnight and was determined to get out asap. I could've stayed overnight if I wanted and would've if there had been any problems.

I am pretty healthy and recover pretty quickly.

I think it was easier than my gallbladder surgery 2 years ago. I did stay overnight for that one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
