I don't know what is going on! Band seems tighter 2 months after last fill.

Recommended Posts

My band has always been fickle but now it totally seems to have a mind of its own. I'm 5 months post-op and have had 4 fills for a total of 8.6cc. My last fill was Jan 9 and was really tight for the first 3 weeks but I waited it out because it always loosens up quite a bit (sometimes too much so). Beginning the third week, I was quite comfortable with the restriction.....eating 1/2 cup and staying satisfied for 4-5 hours which was great and has lasted me this long. Now, for the past few days I've been feeling even tighter (struggling to eat the entire 1/2 cup) but then after a couple of hours I'm hungry again. So what I'm saying is the restriction/tightness seems more so than it has, but the hunger is coming more quickly than it has been. Thats the part I don't understand. Has anyone else experienced greater tightness a month and a half after a fill? Normally when I start getting hungry sooner than 4-5 hours after a meal, it means I'm ready for a fill, but I feel really tight already. I don't get it....hopefully someone can help, I'd really appreciate the input.

Hiya

What you are experiencing is normal although not common in everybody. When I used to get a fill I would see the difference in the first couple of days and that would be maintained but the last few I have had have had a slight impact at first then 3 weeks later a mega impact which didn't go away resulting in me having to get de-filled. Most people notice that their period plays a big part in this, it might be what kicked mine off on those occasions but the restriction didn't leave me until I had Fluid taken out. That's why new bandsters are encouraged to take things easy at first because it takes so little to push you over the edge. Keep an eye on it, you will probably find that you are less tight on an evening, most people are, be careful with bread and meat and sometimes Pasta. When I am tight salad and fruit are a definite no no and that kills me because I love my salads. Push your fluids, try not to pb as it will make you more swollen and you will be able to get less down. If you find you have problems drinking use a straw, if you have problems during the night it is likely to be acid which is very common if you get tight, have an extra pillow and avoid drinking for a couple of hours before you go to bed if that's the case.

Just message me if you need anything else.

Heather

I came on the site today looking for someone else going through this. I had my 3rd fill a month ago and all of a sudden I can not get any food down. It becomes very painfull and I even threw up today after only 2 bites of food. I know it is time for my cycle and I had read somewhere on this site before that can make you tighter, but this is the first time I am feeling it. I think I want to call the docs office, because I am also having a problem with BM's now I was wondering if it is related. Glad to hear it is not just me. I would hate to have to have an unfill because I was feeling good restriction, but if it keeps up, I am going to have to consider it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
